INESC TEC is now accepting grant applications to award 1 Research Initiation Grant (BII) with the reference on the scope SuperIoT funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program for the period 2021-2027.
1. GRANT DESCRIPTION
Type of grant: Research Initiation Grant (BII)
General scientific area: ENGINEERING
Scientific subarea: Electrical engineering
Grant duration: 6 months, starting on 2025-01-01, with the possibility of being renewed for a maximum term of one year.
Workplace: INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal
Maintenance stipend: 601,12 euros, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants, paid via bank transfer. Grant holders may be awarded potential supplements, according to a quarterly evaluation process, up to a maximum limit of 50% of the monthly maintenance stipend.
The grant holder will benefit from health insurance, supported by INESC TEC.
2. OBJECTIVES:
Enlarge the knowledge on the state of the art in emerging wireless networks;
Identify and select the methodologies and approaches suitable for the development of the work;
Develop the grant holder research and development capabilities through the application of the methodologies and approaches selected;
Assess the research process and evaluate the obtained results with critical thinking.
3. BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE WORK PROGRAMME AND TRAINING:
Survey the state of the art in emerging wireless networks, including their simulation using real data assimilation, machine learning, and digital twin approaches;
Collaborate in the writing of technical reports on communications protocols, algorithms, and mechanisms developed;
Develop new modules enabling the simulation and/or experimentation of emerging wireless networks;
Write publications in co-authorship within the scope of the work developed;
Write the final activity report of the grant.
4. REQUIRED PROFILE:
Admission requirements:
Student in Electrical Engineering or similar. The awarding of the fellowship is dependent on the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions.
Preference factors:
Knowledge in IEEE 802.11, 5G, IoT technologies, and LEO Satellite connections;
Knowledge in discrete event-driven simulation.
Minimum requirements:
Solid knowledge in TCP/IP stack and Linux;
Proven previous research experience in the telecommunications area, namely on the performance evaluation of next generation networks (specifically, 5G or LEO Satellite);
Experience with traffic generation tools, such as iperf2/3 and tcpdump/wireshark;
Programming skills in C++ and Python.
5. EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS AND SELECTION PROCESS:
Selection criteria and corresponding valuation: the first phase comprises the Academic Evaluation (AC), while the second phase comprehends the Individual Interview (EI). All factors are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100, taking into account the applicants' merit, suitability, and conformity with the preference factors.
Candidates who score less than 50 points in the AC average will be considered excluded on absolute merit. The top five candidates approved on absolute merit will be qualified for the individual interview.
DISABILITY INCENTIVE
Candidates who present a degree of disability equal to or greater than 90% will benefit from an incentive in the score of the CV Assessment.
