THE POSITION
The MPI-M is now recruiting
Scientific Programmers (f/m/div)
(W-0025) for three two-year positions.
The successful applicants will be part of a team of research scientists and software engineers contributing to the development of the next generation climate modelling system ICON and its implementation on new high-performance computing systems. In the EU-funded DestinE project, a climate digital twin of the earth system will be implemented using the ICON model at km-scale, and in the German BMBF-funded WarmWorld project, key components of the climate information systems (models, data, and analysis systems) will be refactored to enable scalable development and application.
YOUR TASKS The successful applicants will contribute to the re-factoring of the ICON modelling system as part of a large team across Germany and Europe. Applicants are sought with specific interests in (i) efficient implementation of the modelling system on Europe's leading high-performance computing infrastructures (LUMI, JUPITER) and (ii) refactoring ICON for scalable development.

Remuneration will be in line with the German civil service (E 14 TVöD), including comprehensive social security benefits. The conditions of employment, including upgrading and duration, will follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science and those of the German civil service. In principle, the position is full-time. However, part-time applications may be considered. The positions are for a period of two years and the starting date is as soon as possible.
