No Offer Description Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António XavierApplication for a Post-Doctoral Fellow within the scope of the ERC Proof of Concept Lump Sum Grant 2023 Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the scope of the scope of the project entitled "High performance hydrophobic suberin nanoparticles for the generation of liquid-air biphasic droplets with application in food and therapeutics, with the reference 101155808 financed by the European Research Counsil. Academic Qualifications: PhD in Physical Chemistry, Biophysics or related areas General admission requirements: 1) Recent PhD (less than 3 years) in Physical Chemistry, Biophysics or related areas; 2) Demonstrated experience in materials characterization by FTIR, mass spectrometry or SEM/TEM, and other physicochemical and materials methods (e.G. thermo-mechanical) are required; 3) Practice on protocol application using encapsulation technologies; 4) Expertise in confocaland fluorescent microscopy; 4) Scientific publications in the field of physics applied to biology will be valued; 5) Experience in polymer/materials processing using green processes (e.G. ionic liquids, scCO2) will be an additional strength; 6) High motivation for applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship; 7) Proficiency in English, written and spoken, motivation and proactivity, ability to solve problems in a multidisciplinary environment; 8) Immediate availability. Working Plan: The project SNAIL consists of exploring suberin hydrophobic nanoparticles as stabilisation agents in the design of high performance antibubble systems. The grantee will be involved in the production of the suberin nanoparticles and testing, which will require synthesis of the ionic liquid, purification of the suberin nanoparticles and their subsequent fractionation as well as characterisation of their average chemistry and microscopic morphology. He will also be involved in the testing of the performance of suberin variants for stabilisation of antibubbles will the help of Prof. Albert Poortinga, which involve collection of serial images using confocal and fluorescent microscopy. The PhD holder will receive training in the synthesis of ionic liquids and in the extraction of plant polymers using distinct methods. We will also provide training on innovation and entrepreneurship skills, though accelerating courses
