FCCN, the digital services division of FCT, has a mission to contribute to developing Science, Technology, and Knowledge in Portugal. We provide high-speed internet connectivity and IT services for the Portuguese higher education and research system. FCCN is a fundamental pillar in promoting the country's technological and digital development, offering a collaborative and innovative environment. More than six hundred thousand students, researchers, and staff rely on our national education network daily. We seek a highly qualified and motivated Telecommunications Area Director to lead one of FCCN's strategic areas. The Director will contribute to innovation and excellence in supporting education, science, and technology in Portugal. Additionally, the Director will cooperate closely with the General Coordination team to fulfill the annual plans and budgets aligned with FCCN's mission. Develop and implement the strategic vision for the specific area of FCCN under your responsibility, aligned with FCT's overall objectives and the needs of academic and scientific communities. Monitor, coordinate, and validate the planning, coordination, and control of all activities (services, projects, plans, budgets, and events) in your area, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with international best practices. Regularly report to General Coordination on your area's management indicators and the development, control, and outcomes of ongoing activities. Participate in meetings and represent the organization at events in Portugal or internationally. Promote continuous innovation in FCCN's services, identifying opportunities to improve the technological infrastructure and respond to new demands from the academic and research communities. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research centers, government bodies, and companies, both nationally and internationally. Lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative, results-oriented, and excellence-driven work environment.
We are looking for people with the skills and experience described below, but especially those interested in the technological field and motivated to take on the challenge of being part of a highly specialized team and serving the education and research community, contributing to developing quality and innovative services.
Main requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related fields. An MBA or Post-Graduate degree in Management will be valued; A minimum of five years of proven experience in leadership roles; Knowledge and experience in managing technological infrastructures, communication networks, or IT services (preferred); Solid experience in WAN, MAN, WLAN, and LAN network architecture; Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.) and network security technologies; Knowledge of digital infrastructure monitoring; Problem-solving skills and critical thinking for creating innovative and practical solutions. Proven experience in Project Management (Financial Management, planning, execution control, and risk analysis); Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, ensuring continuous talent development; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with various stakeholders; Ability to develop a clear strategic vision and implement it through concrete and effective action plans; Capacity to define and manage budgets, optimize resources, and ensure strategic alignment with organizational goals and implement changes; Fluency in Portuguese and English; Availability for national and international travel.
