Senior Machine Learning Engineer
WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Decision Sciences team at Amgen plays a pivotal role as a strategic partner to Commercial leadership, offering data-backed insights crucial for driving commercial success.
In this role, you will empower data scientists to create and deploy cutting-edge machine learning algorithms by creating scalable frameworks, state-of-the-art tools, and efficient code. You will own the design and architecture of machine learning and orchestration systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate these solutions into production environments seamlessly. Additionally, you will design models with monitoring and performance evaluation in mind to ensure optimal functionality.
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will mentor junior engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. You'll stay at the forefront of technological advancements, ensuring our approaches are innovative and effective. Your technical expertise will optimize code for efficiency and scalability, while your communication skills will bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. Other responsibilities will include:
Oversee and provide technical support for the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning projects, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and maintenance, ensuring timely and successful delivery of high-impact solutions.
Manage complex responsibilities involved in cross-functional projects, ensuring consistent information flow, improved accountability, and facilitated collaboration.
Ensure robust frameworks, tools, and infrastructure support to enable data scientists to develop and implement advanced machine learning algorithms.
Lead the design and architecture of machine learning systems and pipelines, ensuring scalability, robustness, and efficient data processing.
Optimize existing code for efficiency and scalability, ensuring modularity and maintainability in machine learning projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to integrate machine learning solutions into production environments.
Mentor and guide junior machine learning engineers and data scientists, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Conduct thorough research and stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to inform and drive innovation within the team.
Collaborate on data acquisition and preprocessing strategies, working with data engineers to ensure high-quality data for model training and evaluation.
Communicate complex technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and alignment with business objectives.
Support ACCP continuous improvement activities.
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
Our ideal candidate is a team player with customer focus. He/she is problem-solving and result-oriented and has time and process management skills and can compile data.
Proven experience and skills needed:
Doctorate degree.
OR Master's degree and 5 years of machine learning experience.
OR Bachelor's degree and 8 years of machine learning experience.
University Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, or related field.
Fluency in English, both in written and oral communication.
Preferred Requirements:
Deep expertise in Python: Extensive experience in writing efficient, readable, and maintainable Python code for machine learning applications.
Proficiency in PySpark: Strong skills in using PySpark for large-scale data processing and analysis, with the ability to optimize for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
Familiarity with the Machine Learning Lifecycle: In-depth understanding of the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, from data acquisition and preprocessing to model deployment and monitoring.
Experience with Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, including their machine learning and data services.
Knowledge of Version Control Software: Proficiency with version control systems like Git, ensuring collaborative and streamlined development workflows.
Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to innovative solutions.
Attention to detail: Keen eye for detail in coding, model evaluation, and data analysis, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in all deliverables.
Excellent Communication Skills: Capacity to convey technical concepts to a diverse audience, including non-technical stakeholders.
