Job purpose As a Social Policy Officer at UNICEF, you will be part of the Advocacy team and will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and strategies that support the rights and well-being of children in Portugal. This includes conducting research and analysis to guide policy decisions, working with stakeholders to develop and advocate for policies that improve children's lives, monitoring and evaluating policy implementation to ensure effectiveness, and providing technical guidance and support to UNICEF staff and partners. The role also involves keeping up to date on relevant issues and trends in child rights and development, and representing UNICEF in various forums, including meetings with government officials, international organizations, and civil society groups. Overall, this position would be essential in advancing UNICEF's mission of promoting children's well-being worldwide. Main duties
- Support the development and analysis of social policies, legislation and programmes that contribute to child wellbeing, providing compelling and evidence-based insights and recommendations;
- Provide technical support on child rights related topics, including child poverty, social protection and inclusion, public finance and governance, and climate action. It is particularly important to ensure that issues related to climate change are integrated into these efforts;
- Analyse the macroeconomic context and its impact on social development, emerging issues, and social policy concerns, as well as implications for children; suggest appropriate andevidence-based strategies, including government resource allocation policies and social welfare policies on the rights of children;
- Support the collection, analysis, and presentation of user-friendly data on multidimensional child poverty, enhancing national efforts to routinely collect, report, and use of data for policy development and decision-making;
- Support the establishment of effective partnerships with the Government, NGOs, civil society and local leaders, the private sector, and other UN agencies to support sustained and proactive commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child
