DURATION OF THE RESEARCH GRANT
The research grant will last for 6 months, with a provisional starting date in January 2025.
WORK PLAN
Evaluate the reactions of existing natural ecosystems in the Portuguese case study, taking into account the natural-based solution (NBS) adopted in the face of climate change and flood risks:
Analysis of the scoping system
Impact assessment
Interpretation and communication of results.
HOST INSTITUTION AND SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION
The work will be carried out at ISISE - Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering - Civil Engineering Department, School of Engineering of the University of Minho, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Elisabete Rodrigues Teixeira.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation of the applications will focus on the merit of the candidate, by applying the following criteria on a scale of 0 to 5 points:
Candidate's Merit – CM (100%):
Criterion A - Academic record (Final classification obtained in the master's degree), with a weighting of 20%
Criterion B - Professional and/or Personal Experience, with a weighting of 30%:
Sub-criterion B1 - Assessment of Natural Ecosystem Reactions to extreme events (e.g. floods, climatic events) – 6%
Sub-criterion B2 - Knowledge of fauna and flora in an urban environment (in a local and/or urban context) – 6%
Sub-criterion B3 - Knowledge of "Ecosystem Services Assessment - ESA" – 6%
Sub-criterion B4 - Knowledge of Geographical Mapping and Visualization of Satellite Images (e.g. LIDAR, GIS) – 6%
Sub-criterion B5 - Science Communication – 6%
Criterion C - Fluency in English, with a weighting of 20%
Criterion D - Letter of Motivation (Demonstrated motivation, including to pursue research activity), with a weighting of 30%
The final classification of the Candidate's Merit will be obtained by applying the following formula:
CM = (A
0,20) + (B1
0,06
B2 0,06
B3 0,06
B4 0,06
B5 0,06) + (C
0,20) + (D
0,30)
The jury can decide to do an Interview to the candidates who score 3 or more points in the Candidate Merit. The interview will be assessed according to the following criteria:
Interview – ENT (100%):
Criterion E1 - Interpersonal skills, with a weighting of 30%
Criterion E2 - Demonstrated knowledge of the area being applied for, with a weighting of 40%
Criterion E3 - Motivation, with a weighting of 10%
Criterion E4 - Language skills, with a weighting of 10%
Criterion E5 - Flexibility (willingness to travel to research sites and stay in the community under study), with a weighting of 10%
The final score for the Interview will be obtained by applying the following formula:
ENT = (E1 0,30) + (E2
0,40) + (E3
0,10) + (E4
0,10) + (E5
0,10)
So, the Final Classification (CF) of the candidates will be obtained through a weighted analysis of the Merit of the Candidate (MC - weight 60%) and the Interview (ENT - weight 40%), by applying the following formula:
CF = (MC*0,60) + (ENT*0,40)
The Selection Panel reserves the right not to award the research grant in the competition based on the evaluation results of the applicants and their suitability for the project objectives.
