Overview
The IMiNa RG is dedicated to the development of new sensing solutions based on silicon and flexible substrates sensors and their integration into functional prototypes.
We are looking for a self-motivated Junior Research Fellow to join our team in the optimisation of thin-film pyroelectric materials deposition and their application in compact chip-scale devices, in the scope of the EAGER project.
SR&TD project specifications:
(a) Name of the project: EAGER: pyroElectricAlly GEneRated electrons for chips-scale devices
(b) Reference number: Ref. 2022.15666.UTA
(c) Description: This project aims to develop pyroelectrically generated electron sources for chip-scale applications. The exploration of this novel miniature chip-scale device has a wide range of applications in semiconductor industries (vacuum systems) and residual gas sensing applications.
(d) Scientific Area: Nanomaterials for new markets, thin-films
Description of the functions and key primary responsibilities:
Deposition of seed layers and pyroelectric thin-films, by sputtering;
Characterisation of different thin-films through XRD and SEM;
Laboratorial characterisation of current and electric field measurements as a function of temperature;
Experimental validation of the pyroelectric film as a chip scale electron source.
Specific Eligibility Conditions:
MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics Engineering, Material Science or other related field;
Background knowledge on deposition techniques;
Knowledge on material properties;
Report writing.
Supervision: The work plan will be developed at the INL under the scientific guidance of Dr. Rui Pinto. The successful candidate will be integrated into the IMiNa - Integrated Micro and Nanotechnologies.
General Eligibility conditions, required qualifications and expertise:
Hold a MSc Degree within the field of the selected vacancy;
Be a Portuguese citizen, a European Union citizen, a non-European Union Citizen, or a stateless person with a scientific and professional curriculum that demonstrates an appropriate profile for the activity to be performed;
Fluency in English is required.
