Offer Description
A competition is open for the attribution of 1 Research Grant in the framework of the project "BIOSYSMO - Bioremediation systems exploiting synergies for improved removal of mixed pollutants" funded by the European Union under the GA_101060211, according to the following conditions:
1. Scientific area: Biology
2. Admission requirements:
The candidates must hold a degree in Biology (with classification equal or higher than 14 values (in 20) and a Master degree in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology (with classification equal or higher than 18 values (in 20));
Be enrolled in a doctoral programme in Aquatic Sciences or on a non-academic degree course integrated in an educational project of a developed higher education institution in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, if applicable;
Experience in bioremediation;
Experience in sampling in coastal ecosystems;
Experience in isolation and preservation of microorganisms;
Experience in analysing data generated from NGS tools using bioinformatics pipelines and downstream analysis for prokaryotes;
Experience in working in research projects.
In the event the degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, said degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August until the signature of the contract.
3. Work plan:
The candidate will be involved in research activities regarding the development, optimization and application of biosystems for estuarine sediment phytoremediation, namely in the following activities:
Development of novel microbial consortia with bioremediation potential;
Optimization of the efficiency of the developed consortia in microcosms experiments.
4. Legislation and official rules:
Law nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellowship and Studentship Regulation) and amended by Law No. 202/2012, 27th August; Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. and CIIMAR Grants Regulation.
5. Work place:
The work will be carried out at CIIMAR, under the scientific supervision of PhD Ana Paula Mucha and PhD Marisa Almeida.
6. Duration of the grant:
Duration of eight (8) months, starting January 2025 , under the regime of exclusive dedication.
The first ranking of candidates will be performed after a CV evaluation based on:
Academic grades plus scientific area: 50%;
Experience in the research field: 50%.
If necessary, an interview will be done to the three top candidates, after which a final ranking will be performed based on:
CV evaluation: 80%;
Interview: 20%.
The jury reserves the right to not assign the research grant if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile.

10. Form of Advertising/notification of results:
The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, on the CIIMAR website and by e-mail; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo in a preliminary hearing setting.

The competition is open from 15th until 28th November 2024. The applications cannot exceed 20 MB and must be formalized, compulsorily, by sending the following documents:
