Job Summary The Supplemental Physical Therapist assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plans based on evaluation results, which may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. The incumbent documents findings, progress, and provides instruction to patients and caregivers. The therapist will provide recommendations and assist physical therapists and management with program development. The therapist will serve as a resource and mentor, overseeing the development, guidance, and training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians regarding individual patient care. Job Description PRN coverage needed primarily for weekends Training/orientation will be held during the week Location: Texas Medical Center Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or graduate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university-based Physical Therapy program. Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission. Current Certification in Basic Life Support. Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year of experience preferred. Demonstrates ability and willingness to mentor/train staff or supervise clinical interns/students. Provides clinical leadership and demonstrates increasing expertise for a particular patient type/group. Serves as a clinical resource for hospital and/or system or departmental committee/task force. Designs and implements original staff development programs which facilitate the clinical competencies of other staff members. Principal Accountabilities Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient. Performs complete, comprehensive evaluation of patients with a physician's referral. Accurately interprets evaluation findings. Completes a written plan of care, develops goals based on evaluation findings. Implements a physical therapy treatment program and provides advanced physical therapy treatments. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians. Motivates and instructs patient/caregiver using appropriate methods. Communicates effectively with patients/caregivers and professional colleagues. Documents appropriately in the medical record
