INEGI - Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering is a Technology and Innovation Centre (CTI) dedicated to carrying out technology-based research and innovation activities, technology transfer, consultancy and technological services, geared towards the development of industry and the economy in general. We are opening a call for applications for a PhD Researcher in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management or related areas, under Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of August 29, and with the changes introduced by Law no. 57/2017 of July 19 and additional legislation.
1. Objectives:
Conduct research work in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management, with a special focus on areas considered strategic by the Industrial Engineering and Management Unit, namely in the areas of quality, sustainability, digital transformation, continuous improvement and industrial excellence;
Development and application of new models, methodologies and support processes in areas considered strategic;
Development and application of methodologies and KPIs for evaluating circularity;
Design, application and execution of research and innovation projects in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management;
Support the development of internal competencies in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management in general;
Support the creation of new experimental capacities in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management, with a focus on the industrial sector;
Writing technical reports and scientific articles.
2. Type of contract and duration:
2.1 The legal framework for this recruitment process is the Decree-Law No. 57/2016 of August 29, which approved the regime for hiring PhD holders in order to stimulate scientific and technological employment in all areas of knowledge.
2.2 This recruitment process aims to select a PhD holder for the purpose of carrying out scientific research activities under a fixed-term employment contract, subject to indefinite resolution, under the Labour Code approved by Law No. 7/2009 of February 12, as amended. The basis for this contract is the execution of a specific, well-defined, and non-permanent service, with mandatory funding, regardless of its source.
2.3 The fixed-term contract will last for the maximum duration of the project that supports it, which is expected to be 6 years.
2.4 The termination of funding, the conclusion of the project, or the completion of tasks that are the subject of this recruitment process will result in the contract's expiration. This will occur through the notice referred to in Article 345(1) of the Labour Code, which states that "foreseeing the occurrence of the contract's term, the employer must notify the employee of its termination with a minimum advance notice of 7, 30, or 60 days, depending on whether the contract has lasted up to six months, between six months and two years, or for a longer period."
4. Monthly Remuneration Level:
In accordance with the provisions n.º 1 art.º 5 Decreto-Regulamentar n.º 11-A/2017, of December 29, this competition is open to the remuneration level 54 of the single remuneration scale (TRU), which corresponds to a monthly remuneration of 3.446,76 Euros.
6. Candidates:
Candidates who hold a PhD degree or recognition of a PhD degree under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16, and who also have a professional curriculum that reveals a profile suitable for the activity to be developed may apply for the competition, regardless of their nationality or statelessness.
7. Admission Requirements:
PhD in Mechanical, Environmental, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management or related fields.
Preferred qualifications for candidate evaluation include:
Proven professional experience of at least 10 years;
Knowledge of data analysis models;
Programming skills, preferably in Python;
Knowledge of simulation and industrial process optimization software;
Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary communication skills;
Excellent ability to work independently, plan, and organize;
Team spirit;
Ability to lead research projects;
Project management knowledge;
Portuguese and English languages: Very good level (spoken and written).
8. Application Process:
By decision of the jury, candidates who do not comply with point 7 are not allowed to participate in the competition, and candidates who do not submit their application using the electronic form on www.inegi.pt, by email at gestã******, or by mail will be automatically excluded. Candidates who do not submit all the documents mentioned in the same point, or who present them illegibly, incorrectly filled out, or invalid, will also be excluded. The jury reserves the right to require any candidate, in case of doubt and for the purposes of admission to the competition, to present documents proving their respective declarations.
9. Evaluation criteria:
The selection process begins with a curriculum evaluation based on the criteria mentioned in point 7. This evaluation results in the selection of the applications that proceed to the interview phase. The final evaluation is calculated based on a weighting of 40% for the curriculum evaluation and 60% for the interview. The selection criteria and their respective weights are as follows:
Scientific merit (30%);
Qualifications (30%);
Adequacy between the candidate's profile and the objectives (20%);
Motivation (10%);
Relevant experience for the project in question (10%).
The jury reserves the right not to fill the positions in the competition if it deems that there are no candidates who meet the requirements.
10. Final Grading System:
The final grading system will be based on a scale from 0 to 100.
Letter of motivation, demonstrating suitability to the profile (max. 2500 characters, including spaces);
Detailed Curriculum Vitae highlighting all higher education, scientific production, professional trajectory and relevant experience;
Other relevant training or academic certificates;
Brief description of the most relevant scientific and innovation/dissemination activities of the last 5 years (maximum of 1 page).
