A competition is open for the award of a Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the STAR research project - eSTereoselective environmental processes in Antibiotics: contribution to Resistance - 2022.02842.PTDC, with financial support from FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Environmental Chemistry

Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following requirements can apply for this competition:

Requirement 1: Be a student enrolled in a master's degree or an integrated master's degree who has already completed 180 credits corresponding to the first six curricular semesters in the area of Environmental Chemistry or related areas and with knowledge in the area of chirality or holder of an academic degree enrolled in a course that does not award an academic degree as part of the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units. Note: In the case of holders of an academic degree who are enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree, the scholarship can only be attributed to those who have not exceeded, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interpolated.

Requirement 2: Hold a Bachelor's degree in the area of environmental chemistry or related areas with knowledge of chirality. If the qualification was granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and any formalities established there must be completed until the moment of hiring.

Work plan and objectives to achieve: The project aims to monitor chiral drugs in environmental samples. To this end, it is intended:

Apply solid phase extraction methods for drugs present in environmental matrices;

Validate and apply liquid or gas chromatographic methods coupled to mass spectrometry, for quantification of chiral drugs in environmental matrices.

Applicable legislation and regulations: Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, in the current wording (Statute of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, in force.

Host entity/contracting entity: 1H-TOXRUN of the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS-CESPU) / CESPU.

Workplace: The work will be carried out in the 1H-TOXRUN laboratories of the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS-CESPU), Gandra, Paredes under the scientific guidance of Prof. Cláudia Ribeiro, Professor Alexandra Maia and Dr. Ana Rita Ribeiro.

Duration of the scholarship and Activity Regime: The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in November 2024, on an exclusive basis, possibly renewable, but not exceeding the project completion date. If it is not possible to guarantee the duration of 6 months provided for in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted depending on the end date of the project, and provided that the minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed.

Support regime and dissemination of results: As determined in article 30 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 990.98 (+ social insurance) according to the table of scholarship values awarded by FCT, I.P. Payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection methods: A curricular evaluation will be carried out based on the merit of the candidates in which the following factors will be considered:

Academic training: Degree in the field of Environmental Chemistry – 4 points; Degree in related areas – 2 points;

Final Degree Classifications: equal to or greater than 14 points – 4 points; 13 values – 3 points; up to 12 values – 2 points;

Knowledge and research experience in the area of the work plan (up to 5 points);

Proficiency in the English language, to be assessed through a motivation letter (up to 2 points).

The four best-ranked candidates in the curriculum evaluation will be selected for interview (up to 5 points). During the interview, topics related to the candidate's work plan, previous experience, motivation and CV will be discussed.

Method of publishing/notifying results: The results of the evaluation will be published via email, to the email address indicated in the application process.

Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The competition is open from 26/09/2024 to 11/10/2024 (until 11:59 pm, local time). Applications must be formalized via email to ******, indicating the project reference in the subject (CESPU-STAR), accompanied by the following documents:

Motivation letter (written in English),

Certificates proving academic qualifications in the proposed areas,

Proof of experience in laboratory activities for the work to be carried out,

Detailed CV,

Declaration on honor that you comply with the requirement contained in article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Other documents considered relevant by the candidate.

Documentation to be provided at the time of contracting: In addition to those referred to in the previous point, it is necessary to present proof of enrolment in a course that does not award an academic degree as part of the educational project of a higher education institution.

Complaint and appeal deadline: Candidates have a period of 10 working days after publication and notification of the results to comment. After this period ends without any announcement from the candidates, the list is final and the best placed candidate is notified to fill the vacancy.

The scholarship contract and final report models to be prepared by the scholarship holder and the supervisor can be consulted at the relevant website.
