Offer Description Work Plan: The project aims to develop functionalized ionic liquids, and the functionalization of ionic-liquid based aqueous biphasic systems, for biological applications. The selected fellow will have the opportunity to develop innovative research work, involving a multidisciplinary approach, with emphasis on the determination of aqueous biphasic systems (ABS), proteins and VLPs partition, the study of protein-ionic liquid interactions, the study of protein stability and VLPs integrity, and development of purification systems in microfluidics and counter current chromatography.
Fellowship duration: The scholarship will have a duration of 12 months, starting in December 2024. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewed within the term of the project.
Application deadline and form of application submission: Application is open from November 12th to November 25th, 2024.
Documentation to be provided for application: Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, motivation letter, certificate of qualifications, other supporting documents considered relevant and Declaration of honor attesting to the commitment to enroll in an integrated master's degree or a master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering or related areas.
Note: For academic degrees conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to submit the record of the recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12 October), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 283/83, of 21 June).
Documentation to be provided in the context of contracting: Proof of enrolment in an integrated MSc. or MSc. course (viz. Mandatory requirements). Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees and diplomas, or the respective recognition when they have been awarded by foreign higher education institutions.
Where to apply E-mail: ******
Requirements Research Field: Engineering » Chemical engineering
Education Level: Bachelor Degree or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications:
Mandatory requirements: Student enrolled in an integrated MSc. or MSc. in Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering or similar areas will be considered. The BSc. Average and MSc. current average must be equal to or greater than 16.5 values.
The candidate must be enrolled in an integrated MSc. or MSc. course.
The documents proving this situation or the respective recognition when they have been awarded by foreign higher education institutions must be presented, at the latest, until the stage of contracting the scholarship, and before that they can be replaced by a declaration of honour.
Specific Requirements:
Preferred factors: motivation for research, good work capacity, MSc. dissertation to be attained within this scholarship in the following fields: biphasic aqueous systems, ionic liquids, biomolecules and virus-like particles partition; English proficiency; Immediate availability.
Selection process Selection criteria: The selection methods to be used will be the following: Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale from 1 to 20, according to a curricular evaluation with the respective valuation: BSc. grade (35%); MSc. grade (45%); Letter of Motivation (10%); laboratory experience/MSc. dissertation area (10%);
The curricular evaluation will have a valuation of 100%, and if there is a need for a tiebreaker, an interview will be used, attributing, in this situation, 50% to the curricular assessment and 50% to the interview.
Additional comments Composition of the Selection Jury: President of the Jury: João M. M. Araújo, PhD. Effective Jury Members: Ana B. Pereiro, PhD; Inês Matos, PhD. Substitute Jury Members: Joana C. Bastos, PhD; José Paulo Mota, PhD.
