OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Nova SBE/BII/2024/08
A call for applications for a Research Fellowship – Junior Consultant is open at Nova School of Business and Economics (NOVA SBE) under the Project "Social Database", under development by the Data Science Knowledge Center, funded by Nova SBE under the Social Equity Initiative (SEI), with the following conditions:
Data Science, Data Visualization, and Social Economy
All candidates should be currently enrolled in a master's program and available to dedicate part-time to the fellowship (mandatory).
Background in Management, Economics, Data Science, or Marketing (preferred).
Additional courses or experiences in Project Management, Consulting and/or Communication (preferred).
Demonstrated interest in social good (e.g., worked with or for a non-profit/ impact driven organization) (preferred).
Fluency in Portuguese, both written and verbal (mandatory).
The Nova SBE Data Science Knowledge Center (DSKC) aims to advance the knowledge about data-driven decision-making and its application in society. Our position in a school of business and economics, and our understanding of social sciences, technology, programming, and statistical methods, allow us to bridge the gap between organizations and technology that generates processes and uses data for creating impact.
By joining the DSKC, you will be part of one or more project teams, that can be composed of a Principal Investigator (Faculty member), a Project Manager, a Web Developer, and Data Scientists/ Analysts/ Consultants as needed, considering the project goals.
The Researcher will be part of the project "Social Database" which aims to create a single and complete database of all Portuguese social impact organizations. This platform may serve all the Portuguese society, including the organizations themselves, foundations, social businesses, researchers, investors, government agencies, among other interested parties.
Main responsibilities:
Support the growth of the Social Database, including defining strategies to attract social impact organizations to the platform.
Support the establishment of partnerships with the social sector.
Develop digital content and update social networks.
Support the design and concept of the platform's new web pages, including data selection and visualization.
Audit the data collected and define strategies to improve its quality.
Develop benchmark analyses for the development of new features on the platform.
Create and develop different initiatives that boost the community of organizations and partners of the Social Database.
Prepare project documentation and reports.
Define, prepare, and execute the development of a series of "data workshops" for Portuguese social impact organizations.
Create processes that allow the consolidation of the Social Database.
Support and participate in the development of data projects with social organizations.
The researcher will attend daily check-ins with the team, weekly status meetings internal and external, as well as any other meeting under the projects in which he/she is participating.
The research will be conducted at Nova SBE under the scientific supervision of Professor Leid Zejnilovic (or remotely, according to the needs of the project).
The fellowship will have a duration of 4 months, with the possibility of renewal for the length of the project, subject to an annual review. The fellowship will be awarded on an exclusive basis, as stated in Regulations for Nova SBE Scholarships and/or Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of FCT, I.P.
The fellowship amounts to €601,12, according to the table of monthly stipends available in the Regulations for Nova SBE Scholarships.
The selection will be carried upon the evaluation of the CV (20%), motivation letter (10%), data challenge (30%), and interview (40%).

In accordance with the article 12 of Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica of Nova SBE, the candidate can appeal from the decision with the Scientific Council of Nova SBE, Faculdade de Economia da UNL, within 10 working days.
