Offer Description A tender is open for the attribution of a Scholarship to Students enrolled in PhD studies within the scope of the project HORIZON-CL6-2023-GOVERNANCE-01-101134200, FORSAID- Forest surveillance with artificial intelligence and digital technologies, taking place at Forest Research Center (CEF), of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia.
1. TYPE, DURATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS and EXPECTED BEGINNING PERIOD OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The tender is intended for the attribution of a Scholarship of Students enrolled in PhD studies, for a length of six months, possibly renewable up to a maximum of 48 months, scheduled to start on February 2025.
2. WORK PLAN AND WORKPLACE
Workplan: Developing experiments and monitoring plants under different treatments and pathologies, in the laboratory and in the field. Collecting, analysing and interpreting spectral information. Development of algorithms for early detection of disease by automatic learning (Deep Learning).
The work will be developed at Centro de Estudos Florestais of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, under the supervision of Manuel Campagnolo, Manuela Branco, and José Carlos Rodrigues.
3. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter, with the reference FORSAID-PhD-Refª-BL-54-2024 , accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, copy of certificate of qualifications, and other supporting documents considered relevant.
The application period will run from November 18th to December 13th, 2024 .
5. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
5.1 Required Education Level: Students enrolled in PhD. (Registration for a doctorate can be carried out after the candidate has been selected, and only during the scholarship contracting phase).
5.2 Skills/Qualifications / Specific Requirements:
- Hold a Master's degree in one of the scientific areas: Forestry Engineering, Agronomic Engineering, Biological Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics or similar.
- Skills in one or more of the following competences:
Knowledge of entomology or plant pathology;
Solid knowledge of statistical data analysis methods;
Experience in GIS and applications, such as GGIS, ArcGIS;
Knowledge of R and/or Python.
6. FUNDING AND SCHOLARSHIP COMPONENTS
The grant will be financed by HORIZON EU, within the scope of the project FORSAID- Forest surveillance with artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The amount of the monthly allowance is 1.259,64€ plus the reimbursement of voluntary social insurance (applicable to scholarships lasting six months or more).
7. EVALUATION CRITERIA
Selection Procedure: Candidates will be assessed and selected by curricular and professional assessment, with a weighting of 60 per cent, and interview, with a weighting of 40 per cent.

9. DISCLOSURE OF RESULTS
The final results of the evaluation will be publicized through a list ordered, alphabetically, by final grade, posted in a visible and public place of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, with the candidate being approved notified via email.
