The Role
Hiscox are hiring for a Modern Workplace Engineer to work within our IT Services infrastructure team. The IT Services (ITS) function consists of ~100 IT professionals that deliver and maintain the technology that enables everyone at Hiscox, our partners and our customers; every hour of every day. Our business is fast moving, quick to decide and we have rapidly evolving targets and priorities. You will be used to working in a similar environment and will have the ability to work in a self-motivated and confident manner.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a primary technical contact for key technical areas, coordinating with stakeholders and colleagues as required.
Contribute to the planning, design and delivery of IT initiatives.
Configure tools to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of infrastructure.
Produce and own system and infrastructure designs, policies and documentation.
Provide reports and proposals for improvements to colleagues and stakeholders.
Provide advice and guidance to support the adoption of methods and tools.
Drive IT Services in the migration towards a code centric model for managing infrastructure.
Act as a support escalation point for the 3rd line infrastructure support provider.
Proactively manage IT infrastructure to minimise business disruption and identify and drive initiatives to improve the quality and effectiveness of the infrastructure services.
Manage and provide 3rd line support for infrastructure platforms in accordance with agreed service levels, standards and processes.
Discover and remove technical debt as part of a continuous improvement work ethic.
Drive decision making across different teams and disciplines, seeking informed decisions that lead to value-add, quality, appropriate outcomes.
Drive the adoption of Agile values, principles and practices within IT Services.
Actively contribute to the development of other team members.
Embrace change and support the IT Services vision and strategy.
Key Requirements
Essential

Demonstrable technical solution design skills.

Passion for technology, in particular how IT enables the business.
Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to propose and implement improvements.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to efficiently manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Desirable
Experience working within an Agile environment.
An appreciation of DevOps principles.
An appreciation of Infrastructure as Code principles and how they can be applied in an Enterprise environment.
Device management and deployment e.g. Intune, Autopilot.
Understanding of virtualisation techniques e.g. VMware vSphere.
Packaging and delivery of applications.
Relevant certifications, such as in Microsoft 365 are advantageous.
Technical Skills
Expertise in modern workplace technologies e.g. Microsoft 365.
Operating Systems e.g. Windows 10/11.
Client applications e.g. Office 365, Teams, OneDrive.
CVAD – Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Citrix Cloud, Xenapp.
Machine build scripting – MDT or similar.
Scripting and automation e.g. PowerShell.
Knowledge of security best practices e.g. patching and conditional access.
Strong system administration and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to create High Level Designs and Low Level Designs.
