INESC TEC is now accepting grant applications to award 1 Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the HfPT funded by IAPMEI with reference 41 Co-financed by Component 5 - Capitalization and Business Innovation, integrated in the Resilience Dimension of the Recovery and Resilience Plan within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR) of the European Union (EU), framed in the Next Generation EU, for the period 2021 - 2026.
1. GRANT DESCRIPTION
Type of grant: Research Grant (BI)
General scientific area: COMPUTER SCIENCE
Grant duration: 4 months, starting on 2025-03-01, with the possibility of being renewed until the end of the project.
Scientific advisor: Carla Lopes
Workplace: INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal
Maintenance stipend: 990,98 euros, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants, paid via bank transfer. Grant holders may be awarded potential supplements, according to a quarterly evaluation process, up to a maximum limit of 50% of the monthly maintenance stipend.
The grant holder will benefit from health insurance, supported by INESC TEC.
2. OBJECTIVES:
Propose user engagement metrics collected directly from platforms offering behavioral digital therapies and assess their relationship with engagement metrics gathered from indirect sources, such as questionnaires, and therapy outcomes.
Create predictive models to identify which user behaviors are indicative of successful therapy outcomes.
Broaden knowledge of the state of the art in the specific scientific area of scholarship.
Identify and select the appropriate methods for the work plan.
Develop research capacity through the application of selected methods.
Exercise a critical spirit in evaluating the research process and the results obtained.
Document the results obtained through writing scientific articles.
3. BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE WORK PROGRAMME AND TRAINING:
Examine the access logs from platforms providing behavioral digital therapies to identify patterns in user behavior.
Develop metrics to quantify user engagement, such as session frequency, duration, and interaction types.
Analyze the relationship between these metrics and other engagement metrics using statistical techniques.
Analyze the relationship between metrics and therapy outcomes using statistical and machine learning techniques.
Build predictive models to identify key user behaviors that correlate with successful therapy outcomes.
Validate the models using appropriate techniques, such as cross-validation and testing on unseen data.
Develop recommendations to enhance user engagement and therapy effectiveness based on the findings.
Write and publish a scientific article.
4. REQUIRED PROFILE:
Admission requirements:
Degree in informatics and computing engineering or related field. The awarding of the fellowship is dependent on the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions.
Preference factors:
- Knowledge of machine learning.
Minimum requirements:
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
5. EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS AND SELECTION PROCESS:
Selection criteria and corresponding valuation: the first phase comprises the Academic Evaluation (AC), based on the criteria referred to in Article 12 of the Regulations for Grants of INESC TEC, while the second phase comprehends the Individual Interview (EI). All factors are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100, taking into account the applicants' merit, suitability and conformity with the preference factors.
DISABILITY INCENTIVE:
Candidates who present a degree of disability equal to or greater than 90% will benefit from an incentive in the score of the CV Assessment. Candidates must demonstrate the degree of disability during the application.
