NOTICE OF OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF A PRINCIPAL RESEARCHER IN BASIC MEDICINE FOR THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY UNIT FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH – UMIB, AT THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (ICBAS-UP) – (PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT)
Preamble
By order of the Director of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto, Professor Henrique Cyrne Carvalho, dated October 24, 2024, it is announced that an international selection procedure is open, for a period of 15 (fifteen) working days from the first working day following publication in the Diário da República of Order (extract) no. 12991/2024, dated October 31, 2024, for the recruitment of a Principal Researcher in the scientific field of Basic Medicine, specializing in Human Genetics, under a permanent employment contract, in accordance with the Labour Code.
This competition is opened under the FCT-Tenure Program – 1st Edition, published through the Call for Proposals (AAC) with reference PRR no. 02/C06-i06/2024 (application reference 2023.15484.TENURE.001) and with funding as provided under Article 137 of the State Budget Law for 2024, aiming to promote the hiring of PhDs exclusively for permanent positions by integration into a research career.
Workplace
The workplace is located at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute of the University of Porto, for the purpose of performing contracted functions and essential professional training.
Remuneration
The gross monthly salary is €3,867.03, corresponding to the 1st position, level 11 of the table attached to Regulation No. 487/2020, in an exclusivity regime, with holiday and Christmas allowances, as well as a meal subsidy, in accordance with the conditions provided for public employees.
Hiring Regime
The Principal Researcher will be employed under a permanent employment contract, with a one-year probationary period. The researcher will generally perform duties in an exclusive dedication regime, in accordance with Article 39, No. 1 of Regulation No. 487/2020.
Functional Duties
In accordance with Article 8, No. 1 of the Regulation, the duties of research staff include:
Research;
Knowledge transfer and valorization;
Science and technology management and communication, and other tasks;
Teaching and training activities, when applicable, under the terms of Article 12 of Regulation No. 487/2020.
The Principal Researcher will regularly engage in research and development activities, as well as all other scientific and technical duties aligned with the mission of ICBAS and the University of Porto, including:
Conducting research on health and disease throughout life, from neurodevelopment to healthy aging, focusing on disease-causing and disease-associated variants.
Developing scientific activities at UMIB and strengthening the 'Genetic and Hereditary Diseases' pillar.
Establishing an independent research line and team at UMIB.
Participating in educational activities at ICBAS.
II – Selection Process
Admission Requirements
This competition is open to national, foreign, and stateless candidates who hold a PhD in the fields of Basic Medicine, Human Genetics, or related areas, with a scientific and professional curriculum demonstrating an appropriate profile for the activities described.
Specific Admission Requirements
Hold a PhD in Basic Medicine, Human Genetics, or related fields for more than 12 years;
Proven experience in research on human genetic diseases;
At least 800 citations in the Scopus database;
Supervised at least two completed PhD theses in the field of human genetics;
Served as the principal investigator in at least one research project approved through a competitive call.
Preferred Requirements
A scientific curriculum demonstrating relevance in human genetics research;
Proven scientific autonomy;
Experience in leading research projects;
Experience in international research contexts;
Experience in teaching or training programs;
Experience in bioinformatic analysis of genetic data.
Selection Methods
Evaluation of scientific and professional track record (70%); Interview (30%).
