Pr. 155 NOTICE OF THE OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF AN ASSISTANT RESEARCHER, IN THE SCIENTIFIC AREA(S) OF PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS AND RELIGION (PHILOSOPHY OF MIND AND LANGUAGE), FOR THE R&D UNITD INSTITUTE OF PHILOSOPHY, OF FACULTY OF LETTERS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO (FLUP) - (INDEFINITE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT)
Preamble
By order of the Dean of the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP), Professor Paula Maria de Carvalho Pinto Costa, of 24 October 2024, it is hereby announced that this international selection procedure is open, for a period of 15 (fifteen) working days from the working day immediately following the publication in the Diário da República of Order (extract) no. 12990/2024 of October 31, 2024, to hire an Assistant Researcher in the scientific area of Philosophy, Ethics and Religion, sub-area of History of Philosophy (Philosophy in Transition: Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Age) , under an individual employment contract for an indefinite period, following the Labour Code.
The competition and the hiring process are governed by the provisions of Regulation no. 487/2020 – Regulations for Research, Science and Technology Staff of the University of Porto, published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 100, of 22 May, and by other applicable legislation.
I - Characterisation of the Job

This call for tenders is open in accordance with the FCT-Tenure Programme - 1st Edition, published through the Call for Tenders (AAC) with reference PRR no. 02/CO6-iO6/2024 (application with reference 2023. 13450.TENURE.019).
5. Workplace
The place of work is at FLUP, or at any other places necessary for the performance of the duties for which the researcher is hired.
6. Remuneration
The gross monthly salary is €3,427.59, corresponding to the 1st position, level 9 of the table annexed to Regulation no. 487/2020; or the 1st position, index 195 of the table annexed to the statute of the Scientific Research Career.
8. Functional Content
The duties of research staff comprise the following areas:
Research;
Transfer and valorisation of knowledge;
Management and communication of science and technology and other related tasks;
Teaching and training activities, where applicable.
8.2. The Researcher will be responsible for carrying out research and development activities, including:
Research on the area of Medieval and Early Modern Philosophy, focusing on theories and producing detailed knowledge about the sources and relevant philosophical questions.
Regular publication of research results in national and international journals.
Organisation of scientific activities and networking between researchers.
Teaching advanced training and supervising postgraduate research.
Raising competitive national and international funding.
II - Selection Process
9. Admission requirements
National, foreign and stateless candidates who hold a doctoral degree in the scientific area of Philosophy, specialising in Medieval Philosophy, and who have a scientific and professional curriculum vitae in the scientific area(s) of this competition.
9.2. Special admission requirements include:
Doctorate in Philosophy with a thesis in Medieval Philosophy.
Research experience in competitively funded research projects.
Knowledge in the fields of metaphysics, psychology, philosophy of nature and logic in the Middle Ages and Early Modernity.
10. Preferred Requirements
To assess candidates, the preferential requirements include:
Research activity in Medieval Philosophy in the last five years;
Participation in competitively funded research projects;
Publication of research works in the area of Medieval Philosophy.
16. Formalising applications
16.1. Applications must be submitted by 23:59 on 22 November 2024 (local time - Lisbon).
16.3 The application must be accompanied by documents proving the conditions set out in points 9, 10 and 12 of this notice.
False statements made by candidates will be punished in accordance with the law.
