Following my Order issued on 24 july 2024, by delegated power under the Ordinance no. 9493/2022 published in the Official Gazette ( Diário da República ), 2nd series, no. 148 of 2nd August, this call for applications is published for one position of Assistant Professor in the Disciplinary Area of Pharmaceutical Sciences ,at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto.
3.1 . If there are no reasons to reject the applications, the Selection Committee will decide on their approval or non-approval based on absolute merit, by justified nominal vote, from which the Selection Committee members are not allowed to abstain.
3.4. For the evaluation referred to in the previous point, the approval based on the absolute merit of the candidates will depend on the followingrequirements:
(i) Hold a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field in the area of Medicinal Sciences;
(ii) Have a curriculum whose merit the members of the jury consider to be of an adequate scientific and pedagogical level, research capacity and activity compatible with the disciplinary area and category for which the position is open.
Notwithstanding the minimum criteria identified in the subsections of point 3.4 of this notice, the evaluation of candidates will focus on the following dimensions and the Scientific-Pedagogical Project. The evaluation should emphasize the curricular aspects related to the disciplinary area for which the competition is open, with special emphasis on specific subareas/domains within the clinical area, particularly in Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacotherapy.
Pedagogical Experience and Expertise(DPEE) – 25%
University Extension Tasks and the Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge(DUV) – 5 %
The following criteria will be taken into account in the assessment of each of the evaluation dimensions and the Project identified in the previous point, as well as the weight to be attributed to each one of them in the final classification, without prejudice to the minimum criteria identified in point 3.4 of this Public Notice, if applicable:
4.3.1. Criteria for assessing Scientific Merit ( DSM ) – 45%
The candidate's scientific merit in the field of medicines (Medicinal Sciences) will be assessed. The scope of this area will be understood on the basis of the range of curricular units in which the candidate is expected to develop his/her work, with emphasis on the imminently clinical subjects taught in the Laboratory of Pharmacology FFUP, namely Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy. The assessment will be based mainly on scientific publications with peer review, coordination and participation in research projects funded through competitive national or international programmes, oral presentations at international congresses by invitation.
4.3.1.1. Scientific Production (SM1): scientific publications within the area in which the recruitment process is open, with emphasis on the predominantly clinical subjects taught in the Pharmacology Laboratory: books, book chapters and papers in internationally indexed journals, scored according to the number, type of publication and impact factor, where applicable (25%).
4.3.1.2. Coordination and Participation in Scientific Projects (SM2): Coordination or participation in scientific projects competitively funded through national or international agencies or by other public or private entities, in the area in which the position is open (10%).
4.3.1.3. Presentations at International Conferences by the Candidate (SM3): Oral presentations at international conferences by the candidate, especially oral presentations by invitation (5%).
4.3.1.4. Postgraduate Training and International Experience (SM4): Internships, research grants or additional academic training in national or foreign teaching or scientific research institutions, in the area in which the position is open, lasting more than 3 months and which have resulted in objective outcomes (publications, degree, etc.) (5%).
4.3.2. Criteria for assessing Pedagogical Experience and Expertise (DPEE) – 25%
Candidates' teaching experience in higher education will be assessed, taking into account teaching activity, with an emphasis on teaching and coordinating curricular units in imminently clinical areas, especially in the areas of Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy (teaching areas to be ensured without prejudice to support for the teaching of other curricular units taught by the Pharmacology Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto)
4.3.2.1. Teaching Experience/Activity (PEE1): teaching experience in curricular units in higher education, based on the number of academic years in which the teaching activity was carried out, the modernity of the educational models applied, pedagogical training obtained, (co-)authorship of pedagogical publications/communications, experience in teaching curricular units or coordinating disciplinary areas, especially in Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy (15%).
4.3.2.2. Supervision of Postgraduate Students (PEE2): experience in supervising or co-supervising master's or doctoral theses in progress or already completed (10%).
4.3.3. Criteria for assessing University Extension Tasks and the Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge (UV) – 5%
This component will assess the economic and social value of knowledge, including the transfer of knowledge to health professionals in the areas of Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy, participation in the evaluation of manuscripts for publication (peer-review); participation in evaluation panels and the organisation of seminars, conferences and meetings (workshops).
4.3.3.1. Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge (UV1): (2.5%).
4.3.3.2. Participation in the evaluation of manuscripts for publication (peer-review) (UV2): (0.5%).
4.3.3.3. Participation in Evaluation Panels (UV3): (1%).
4.3.3.4. Organisation of Seminars, Conferences, and Meetings (workshops) (UV4): (1%).
4.3.4. Criteria for assessing University Management (UM) – 5%
4.3.4.1. Participation in University Management Structures (UM1): (2%).
4.3.4.2. Participation in Research Groups (UM2): (2%).
4.3.4.3. Participation in Master's and Doctoral Juries (UM3): (1%).
4.3.5. Criteria for assessing the Scientific-Pedagogical Project (SPP) – 20%
The Scientific-Pedagogical Project (PCT) must focus on the area for which the position is open and scientific-pedagogical projects orientated towards areas related to the clinical use of drugs and aligned with the clinical dimension of the pharmaceutical intervention to which the candidate proposes to dedicate him/herself at FFUP. The areas of Pharmacokinetics, Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy, will be particularly valued.
The Selection Committee may hold a public hearing, under the same circumstances for all candidates approved on absolute merit, to clarify in-person evaluation elements from the documentation submitted by the candidate.
These public hearings will take place between the 30th and the 70th day following the deadline for the submission of applications. All candidates will be informed by email at least ten working days in advance of the date and location of these public hearings.

the first voting round is intended to determine the candidate placed in first place by counting the number of votes each candidate received for that place;
if a candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes for the first place, must be placed in the respective position and removed from the vote. The procedure will start to choose the candidate who will be positioned in the second place of the voting round;
if no candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes for the first place, a new voting round will be held, which will only include candidates who have achieved votes for the first place, upon removing the least voted candidate in the previous vote for that place;
if there is a tie between two or more candidates in the least voted position, a tiebreak vote between them will be held, counting the number of relative first positions for each, with the least voted being removed;
if a tie still remains between two or more candidates in the least voted position, but the number of those candidates has been reduced in the previous voting round, a further tiebreak vote shall be held only between candidates tied for the least voted position, counting the number of relative first positions for each, with the candidate least voted being removed;
if the tie remains between two or more candidates in the least-voted position, without reducing the number of candidates tied in the least-voted position in the previous voting round, the decision will be made by the quality vote of the President of the Selection Committee or by a casting vote, according to the situation. The candidate voted by the President of the Selection Committee will be chosen to integrate the following voting round for the same place;
if there is a tie when only two or more candidates remain for the first place, the tiebreaker is made through the casting vote of the President of the Selection Committee or by the exercise of the tiebreaker vote, according to the situation;
the candidate chosen for the first place will leave the votes and then begin the selection procedure for the candidate to place in second place, repeating the process mentioned in the previous paragraphs for the subsequent places until there is a single ordered list of candidates.
Curriculum Vitae with all relevant information to evaluate the candidate's application, as well as to demonstrate compliance with the criteria set out in point3 of this Public Notice, in accordance to the the selection criteria described in point 4.3 of this Public Notice , i.e., the selection dimensions and criteria;
A scientific-pedagogical project outlining the development of clinical areas, specifically in pharmacokinetics, pathophysiology, and pharmacotherapy, as well as other areas related to the clinical use of pharmaceuticals, and in accordance with the European directive on the recognition of professional qualifications for pharmacists;
One copy of each of the works mentioned in the submitted curriculum, which allow for the verification and evaluation of the criteria outlined in sections 3.4. and 4.3. of this notice;
Additionally, candidates may highlight up to ten of these works/activities in the submitted curriculum that they consider most representative of their work, providing reasons for the emphasis placed on the selected documents.
6.3. Each of the documents listed in subparagraph f) of point 6.2. of this Public Notice , should be submitted in an individual file and in full through theSIGARRA platform . The documents can be integrated into folders with compressed format (ZIP, RAR, 7Z). However, it is necessary to consider the system's limit for upload, which is set at a maximum of 720MB per file or compressed folder. Each applicant may submit several files or zipped folders, each with a limit of 720 MB. There is no limit to the number of files/zipped folders submitted.
7.3. The notifications will be sent by email, under Article112, no. 1, subparagraph c) andArticle113, no. 5 of the CPA.
The deadline for candidates to comment in writing is ten working days.
