Why Teach For Portugal?
Teach For Portugal (TFP) is an independent, non-profit organisation, founded to expand opportunity for vulnerable children in Portugal by recruiting and developing the leadership capacity necessary to address educational inequality in the country. Our vision is that one day all children in Portugal will have access to an excellent education, independently of their socio-economic or cultural background. Teach For Portugal's model is based on the experience of the global network Teach For All (http://teachforall.org/en), with partner organisations in more than 60 countries and more than 30 years of experience and proven results. Teach For Portugal recruits and develops promising future leaders (TFP Mentors) to teach in the country's high-need classrooms and ensure all children facing extreme adversity are given the opportunity to fulfil their potential. However, our mission does not end in the classrooms. Informed by their experience and involvement with all members of the educational community, Teach For Portugal Alumni will go on to become social entrepreneurs, policymakers, advocates, leaders in many areas to address the multiple factors that prevent some children from attaining the kind of excellent education all children deserve.
Why the Alumni and Career team?
The Alumni and Career Development team is very important to us for keeping alive the urgency for systemic change throughout the organisation, especially for the TFP Mentors who complete the leadership development program, and for the Alumni who became a community of changemakers after the program.
The Alumni Community Manager will have 2 main goals:
a) Alumni Systemic Impact: Ensuring that TFP Mentors develop as change agents, believing in their skills and potential to create impact in the system and further identifying the role they can play in it. Additionally, the Alumni Community Manager will guide the TFP Mentors in their future career exploration and planning, as well as prepare them in their professional transition after the program, creating or identifying opportunities aligned with the Teach For Portugal strategy/mission.
b) Community building: The Alumni community manager will also be responsible for creating and implementing several actions to keep the Alumni network (TFP mentors who have completed the program) connected, close and involved with Teach For Portugal and the mission. In addition, it is also the goal to provide moments of personal development, networking and professional growth opportunities in order to continue to leverage their careers for the impact on education and social justice.
