Offer Description The aim of this project is to reduce the investment costs of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis. The objective is to replace the bipolar plates and porous titanium transport layers with less expensive stainless steel-based materials, which will have undergone surface treatment to reduce electrical contact resistances and limit the release of metal ions. This post-doctorate will take place within the framework of the PROTIS project, an ANR-SNF Franco-Swiss project involving the Institut de Corrosion in Brest and EMPA in Zurich, in addition to LEMTA. The work will involve performance and accelerated ageing tests on PEM electrolysis cells whose structural materials will have been designed jointly with the project partners. The membrane-electrode assemblies will be commercial ones. Based on electrochemical characterizations in 25cm2 single cells, analysis of degradation products, and post-mortem characterizations of the materials, it will be necessary to identify degradation mechanisms and propose solutions.
The work is essentially experimental in nature but may be supported by modeling.
