RESEARCH FIELD(S): Physics
MAIN SUB RESEARCH FIELD OR DISCIPLINES: Applied Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Technology
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our cutting-edge project at the intersection of quantum technologies and advanced spin resonance techniques. This position focuses on developing innovative electron spin resonance (ESR) instrumentation for exploring clock transitions in rare-earth ions, a promising platform for quantum memories and microwave-optical photon interfacing.
Project Description: This project aims to address a key limitation of conventional ESR spectrometers, which operate at fixed frequencies (e.g., X-band, ~9.5 GHz), by developing a custom broadband ESR spectrometer. This instrument will enable fine-tuned exploration of the magnetic field (B0) and microwave frequency (f0) spectrum, essential for studying clock transitions in detail. Key objectives include:
Broadband ESR Development: Design and construction of an in-house ESR spectrometer capable of covering a wide frequency range.
Pulse ESR Capabilities: Integration of pulse functionalities to investigate quantum dynamics and coherence properties around clock transitions.
In-Situ Adjustable Resonators: Design, characterization and integration of resonators with dynamical frequency adjustability for in-situ tracking of clock transitions with high sensitivity.
Laboratory and Research Environment: The successful candidate will join the Magnetism (MAG) Group at the IM2NP Laboratory, a renowned research center in Marseille, with all facilities and expertise in materials science, nanotechnology, and condensed matter physics needed. Our environment allows innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, offering state-of-the-art tools for spectrometer development and advanced instrumentation.
As part of this project, the candidate will have access to IM2NP's state-of-the-art platforms for electromagnetic simulations, cryogenic setups, and high-frequency instrumentation. Collaboration within the INFRANALYTICS national platform enhances access to high-performance analytical tools and fosters interactions with experts in spectroscopy and instrumentation across France. This integrated network offers a unique opportunity to work at the frontier of quantum technologies while benefiting from a robust infrastructure for innovation.
TYPE OF CONTRACT: TEMPORARY / JOB STATUS: FULL TIME
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 01/03/2025
ENVISAGED STARTING DATE: (01/03/2025 to 01/09/2025)
ENVISAGED DURATION: 24 months (possibility of 12 months more)
JOB NOT FUNDED THROUGH AN EU RESEARCH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME
WHAT WE OFFER:
A 2-year Postdoctoral position with a possibility of a 3rd year . The funding is assured by an A*Midex grant (excellency initiative grant of Aix Marseille Université).
The Gross monthly salary will be between 2616 and 3368€ / month, which includes social and professional benefits.
Scientific Benefits:
Access to research resources and opportunities to work with state-of-the-art equipment and significant project funding.
Collaborations with international teams and participation in scientific conferences.
Academic and Professional Networking: Integration into a renowned scientific community, providing opportunities to build a strong professional network.
During the time of the position, the possibility to apply for a CNRS permanent position will be offered.
Additional information:
