TECHNICIAN FOR THE FIRE-RES PROJECT
APPLICATION No. 13/2024
CoLAB ForestWISE is a Collaborative Laboratory focused on forest and fire issues through the development of (co)research, innovation, and knowledge transfer and technology activities. Our goal is to promote sustainable forest management in Portugal, enhance the competitiveness of the Portuguese forestry sector, and reduce the negative consequences of large rural fires.
CoLAB ForestWISE opens one position for A PROJECT TECHNICIAN within the FIRE-RES project – Innovative technologies and socio-ecological-economic solutions for fire-resilient territories in Europe , funded by the Horizon 2020 program under agreement nº 101037419, from the European Green Deal H2020 LC-GD-1-1-2020.
The FIRE-RES project addresses rural fires in an integrated manner, with the overarching goal of contributing to a more fire-resilient Europe (https://fire-res.eu/). To achieve this goal, the project develops a set of innovative actions that significantly contribute to decision-making processes in mitigating the impacts of fires on forest ecosystems, local economies, and communities.
Summary Job Description Under the supervision of the CoLAB ForestWISE Chief Technology Officer, the CoLAB ForestWISE Risk Management Work Line Coordinator, and the FIRE-RES Project Director, the main responsibilities of the Technician to be hired will be to carry out and develop the tasks envisaged within the scope of the project, namely:
Carrying out work related to data collection and modelling of forest-based value chains, looking for strategies to increase their resilience to fire;
Accompanying and implementing the various innovation actions in the Portuguese Living Lab (Vale de Sousa and Lousã), namely by collaborating in the creation of prototypes and demonstrators of the use of decision support tools;
Articulating theoretical and practical knowledge with requests from the Rural Fire Innovation Community (CWI), stakeholders, and consortium partners, contributing to the identification of problems and the proposal of innovative solutions within the scope of the Portuguese Living Lab;
Preparing project progress reports (milestones and deliverables) and disseminating the results through documents/brochures with guidelines for the urban-rural community of the project's Living Labs, as well as in scientific publications;
Representing CoLAB ForestWISE, when requested, at events and initiatives relevant to the 'Risk Management' Line of Work as well as to CoLAB ForestWISE in general.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering and Data Science, Mathematics, and related areas, obtained up to the opening date of this competition.
If the qualification was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12, regulated by Ministerial Order no. 227/2017, of July 25, and updated by Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Diário da República, 1st series, no. 157, of August 16, 2018. All the formalities set out in these laws must be fulfilled by the date the contract is signed.
Personal Skills Capacity for analytical thinking and problem-solving;
Ability to identify problems and apply practical solutions in various technical environments;
Willingness to integrate easily into an established multidisciplinary team;
Ability to plan, organise and work in a results-oriented manner;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Excellent writing and summarising skills;
Capacity for initiative and proactivity.
Specific Requirements We are looking for candidates with knowledge and professional experience in data management and analysis. Candidates should preferably have experience in three or more of the following areas:
Advanced knowledge of Office;
Proficiency in Excel for data management and analysis, with VBA skills and integration with tools such as Google Sheets/Forms and PowerBI/BoldBI;
Data processing, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results;
Preference for candidates with knowledge of optimisation, simulation, and decision support tools;
Oral and written proficiency in Portuguese and English (level C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR);
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as part of the FIRE-RES consortium, to collect data and organise events.
Immediate availability to join the FIRE-RES project team.
Additional Information The Project Technician to be hired will be entitled to an employment contract under the FIRE-RES Project - Innovative technologies and socio-ecological-economic solutions for fire resilient territories in Europe , with a fixed monthly salary of between TRU 18 and TRU 36, to be defined according to the Curriculum Vitae and the experience presented and proven.

Selection Process Interview of candidates whose curricular assessment is equal to or higher than 15 points;
The final classification will be the weighted average of the curricular assessment, with a weight of 60%, and the interview, which will account for 40%;
Selection of the candidates with the best final score;
The jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if it considers that none of the candidates has the required profile.
