About us: HISCOX is an international insurer specialized in the market of luxury goods & property, and high-end professional insurance. As experts in risk, we give people and businesses the confidence to realise their ambitions. With offices in 9 European countries, we have a very international staff and encourage a culture that fosters inclusion and collaboration, offering exciting opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The Role: The primary focus for this role is to be a key and influential member of our London Market Infrastructure & DevOps Chapter with a focus on Site Reliability Engineering and offer dedicated support to our various Innovation squads as we create solutions to add value to the business Key Responsibilities: Work with LM innovation squads helping to ensure our infrastructure in the Cloud is properly managed, secure and cost effective Performing a traditional SRE role – with the goal of automating all things infrastructure – ensuring it is wholly scripted and deployed as part of an automated DevOps CI/CD pipeline with little or no human interaction – making good use of existing tools like Azure DevOps, Puppet, Docker, YAML and Terraform. Ensuring our production and dev/test environments are secure, performant, scalable, consistent (through scripting) and monitored accordingly – so we can take proactive steps towards improving all of these aspects over time and are fully aware of existing issues. Ensuring our cloud environments are secure and safe – setting up and making sure Private and Public subnets are appropriately and cost effectively secured. Supporting squad engineers with the design and architecture of the overall solution – ensuring infrastructure is a key part of the overall consideration. Actively participating in incident management, problem resolution and root cause analysis scenarios. On a day to day basis, working alongside engineers – pairing and collaborating as necessary. Working in an Agile manner and within sprints – focused on specific cloud solutions. Helping engineers to also grow their knowledge of SRE techniques – especially around Container and Terraform usage / state management – allowing them to self-serve as much as possible. Working closely with the other LM Infrastructure & DevOps chapter members to agree on best practices around how we use our cloud subscriptions – ensuring resources are properly tagged, conventionally named, and monitored for performance, security and cost. Ensuring we tear down PoC/Spike resources when no longer required to keep on top of spend. Regularly looking at the cost explorer for this purpose – ensuring squad engineers do the same. Ensuring we have a pathway to multi-cloud tenancy – with a view to always securely use the best cloud provider for the solution. Hiscox London Market are expanding our use of Azure and GCP and keep up to date with this fast-moving tech space.
