The team is steadily moving from an on-premise environment to an Azure-based Cloud environment, focusing on redesigning solutions rather than simply migrating, and making the most of Azure PaaS services (including containerization) and Third Party services in doing so.The SRE role is new for Hiscox Re & ILS. Working in the central 'Strategy, Architecture and Service Management' team, this role will not only drive good practices in the Azure cloud space but also help to define and enforce good DevOps practices and maximize the insights gained from operational monitoring.It is a role that would suit a candidate with hands-on experience looking after Azure platforms, someone who likes to take ownership of their own area and encourage others to follow good practices and principles.In our Lisbon office, we have the privilege of employing approximately 500 exceptional professionals representing 29 diverse nationalities. As part of our commitment to our employees' well-being, we provide a 35-hour workweek along with the option for a hybrid working schedule.Key Responsibilities:Work with DevOps Engineers, Software Engineers, and Architects in an agile manner to ensure our Azure infrastructure (PaaS and IaaS) is properly managed, secure, and cost-effective.Taking an automation-first approach, using Azure DevOps, Puppet, Docker, YAML, and Terraform, to maximize the potential of automated CI/CD pipelines.Owning standards and templates for operational reporting; leveraging Azure Monitor and its substituent components to ensure squads are maximizing the insights they get.Knowledge sharing and collaboration with both the Re & ILS DevOps Chapter and the wider Hiscox community of SRE and Cloud Infrastructure colleagues.Taking ownership of Azure Cost Management reporting, advising leadership on spending trends, proactively flagging potential risks and recommending cost-saving opportunities.Automating and maintaining on-premise-based components for Cloud services, such as Self-Hosted Integration Runtimes and On-Premise Data Gateways.Essential Skills/Experience:Experience of managing an Azure platform environment, being able to discuss and debate good practices and anti-practices.A good understanding of the Azure services that are available today, and an ability to discuss their suitability for different use-cases.Practical experience of Azure DevOps, Docker, YAML, and Terraform.Solid experience of implementing automation using Terraform and Azure DevOps pipelines.Experience of the full project life cycle, from inception to user acceptance testing into Production and beyond.Should be comfortable working in cross-functional groups with peers and senior leaders.Good, conversational English.Advantageous Skills/Experience:Knowledge of reinsurance and/or Lloyd's market.Experience of application support/operations ideal; understanding how to troubleshoot system issues and find a pragmatic solution in a timely manner.Experience with Puppet.Why Hiscox?Healthy work-life balance with our 35h/week and hybrid working system.Holidays: 25 days + 2 Hiscox Days (Extra two Annual Leave).Health insurance, gym allowance, pension plan etc.After 5 years work 1-month sabbatical leave.Team spirit with many opportunities to engage and an open culture.Work with amazing people and be part of a unique culture
