The Role: The primary focus for this role is to be a key and influential member of our London Market Infrastructure & DevOps Chapter with a focus on Site Reliability Engineering and offer dedicated support to our various Innovation squads as we create solutions to add value to the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with LM innovation squads helping to ensure our infrastructure in the Cloud is properly managed, secure and cost effective.
Performing a traditional SRE role – with the goal of automating all things infrastructure – ensuring it is wholly scripted and deployed as part of an automated DevOps CI/CD pipeline with little or no human interaction – making good use of existing tools like Azure DevOps, Puppet, Docker, YAML and Terraform.
Ensuring our production and dev/test environments are secure, performant, scalable, consistent (through scripting) and monitored accordingly.
Ensuring our cloud environments are secure and safe – setting up and making sure Private and Public subnets are appropriately and cost effectively secured.
Supporting squad engineers with the design and architecture of the overall solution – ensuring infrastructure is a key part of the overall consideration.
Actively participating in incident management, problem resolution and root cause analysis scenarios.
On a day to day basis, working alongside engineers – pairing and collaborating as necessary.
Helping engineers to also grow their knowledge of SRE techniques – especially around Container and Terraform usage / state management.
Working closely with the other LM Infrastructure & DevOps chapter members to agree on best practices around how we use our cloud subscriptions.
Knowledge sharing and collaborating with the wider Hiscox SRE and Cloud Infrastructure team members.
Ensuring we tear down PoC/Spike resources when no longer required to keep on top of spend.
Ensuring we have a pathway to multi-cloud tenancy.
Person Specification:
Experience of working as an engineer, working on solutions in the cloud in Azure.
Previous experience of application support and operations.
A strong interest and awareness of all cloud providers and their services.
Creative, proactive, logical and innovative – you do not accept the status quo.
Highly results driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in a very fast-paced environment.
Exposure to the full project life cycle, from inception to user acceptance testing and live running and operations.
Demonstrate good decision making, evaluating the implication of various options before deciding.
Works well in cross-functional groups with peers, subordinates and seniors.
It would be advantageous if you have:
In-depth knowledge of the Insurance Market with Lloyd's market experience particularly useful.
