Role Overview
Reporting to the MAS Team Lead you will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for our payment's backend solution. Our payments backend ensures funds are delivered on time to merchants creating a seamless payment experience to the consumer. It is a mission critical system that must reliably process millions of transactions within short time boundaries. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up.
What You Will Do
Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
Who You Are
Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
Experience building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable 'big data' data stores.
Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka.
Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, MSSQL and Cassandra.
Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Airflow, NiFi, Luigi.
Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift.
Experience with stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming.
Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Scala, Go.
Experienced in taking ownership of tasks, commitments, quality, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Self-motivated and detail-oriented team player with a desire to work on a team and mentor team members when necessary.
Able to efficiently break down problems and leverage business resources to establish a clear path toward customer value despite the presence of ambiguity.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to communicate intent to other developers through code.
A solid foundation in software engineering – bachelor's / master's degree with 4+ years of experience.
Provide outstanding support, including on-call support when necessary.
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
Building CI pipelines
Azure, AWS or other cloud platforms
Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
