Offer Description A competition is open for the attribution of two PhD students scholarships at the Research Unit - Interdisciplinary Research Center Marine and Environmental Research, according to the following conditions:
1. Scientific area: Biochemistry
2. General admission requirements: Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) who hold a MSc degree and are enrolled in a PhD program, and a scientific and professional curriculum whose profile is suited for the activity to be performed focus on natural products research. The candidates should be able to communicate orally and in written form in English language.
3. Specific admission requirements: The candidates should have an excellent academic and professional track record, with proved laboratory experience in the broad molecular biology field, be committed to work in a team and be highly motivated and oriented towards the research area. Experience with natural products chemistry, metabolomics, biosynthesis, and enzymology will be regarded as a plus.
4. Working plan: The candidate will mainly be involved in the following activities: i) maintenance of the cyanobacterial and microalgae cultures; ii) nucleic acid extraction; iii) heterologous expression; iv) protein isolation and purification; (v) help on the preparation of intermediate and final project reports; (vi) participation in dissemination activities.
5. Duration of the contract: Duration of 3 (three) months, with a provisional start on 1st of January 2025, under the regime of exclusive dedication.
6. Monthly salary: The monthly maintenance allowance is 1259,64 € (one thousand, two hundred and fifty-nine euros and sixty-four cents), in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. Payment will be made by bank transfer. In addition to this allowance, the grantee will be covered by a personal accident insurance.
7. Selection methods: The ranking of candidates will be performed by an initial evaluation based on a global appreciation of the candidates' merit and motivation (valued from 1 to 10) will be made on the basis of the evaluation of their scientific and curricular track-record, particularly the quality of their research outputs related to the subject area of the present call. This will result in a pre-selection of the three best-scoring candidates, scored higher than 7, which will be communicated to the candidates. An interview may also be carried out, in which case all of the pre-selected candidates will be summoned to the interview.
