Offer Description IRAP is developing an instrument to measure high-energy charged particles (SP@M) for the European Space Agency's M-MATISSE space mission, currently in phase A study. The instrument is based on the use of SSD silicon detectors with different input windows depending on the type of particle and the energy to be measured. The person recruited will be responsible for simulating the instrumental response with Geant-4 and for calibrating the detectors. Particular emphasis will be placed on electron-proton discrimination, by simulating collection times in the detector.
Responsibilities Design and simulate the detection plan for the SP@M instrument on the M-MATISSE mission.
Simulate detector collection times and electron-proton discrimination.
Characterize and calibrate prototype detectors using radioactive sources and particle accelerator.
Present, disseminate and promote work at international conferences and through publications.
The instrument is being developed by a team of 3-4 people (researcher, instrumentalist, mechanic, electronics engineer). Work is carried out in collaboration with researchers and instrumentalists to meet scientific needs.
Qualifications Good knowledge of Geant-4 and the physics of SSD detectors, knowledge of C/C++ or Python programming, knowledge of space constraints.
