There is an open call for applications for a Research Grant (BI), for the conduct of R&D activities by a graduate with a Master degree enrolled in a course non-leading to an academic degree, under reference SAI/2024/15 in the scope of the Laboratórios Associados - LA/P/0087/2020-LS4F, at the institution Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS) from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), supported by income from the above mentioned project, financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P.), under the following conditions:
Field of study: Biomedicine
Admission requirements (eligibility criteria):
Master's degree completed by the application submission date in Biology, Biochemistry, Health Sciences, or related fields, with a final average grade of 15 points.
Enrollment in a non-degree granting course in the areas of Biology, Biomedicine, or related fields.
Work plan: The selected fellow will join the project as a researcher and perform the following tasks under the scientific guidance and supervision of the project's Principal Investigators:
Conduct research on Drosophila stem cells;
Develop key reagents such as mutants and transgenics, perform microdissections and immunofluorescence for developmental defect analysis, as well as analyze cellular mechanisms and gene expression changes;
Prepare an application for an FCT PhD fellowship to join a research project on the temporal and metabolic regulation of neural stem cells during brain development in the research group led by Principal Investigator Dr. Catarina Homem at FCM|NMS in Lisbon;
Contribute to laboratory setup and management tasks, including maintaining Drosophila stocks, ordering materials and reagents, and performing other lab maintenance tasks;
Participate in drafting scientific articles and reports.
Place of work: The work will be carried out at the facilities of the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas | NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), in the research group "Regulation of Stem Cell Proliferation and Fate" under the scientific supervision of Dr. Catarina Homem.
Duration and start date: The fellowship will have an initial duration of 6 months, with an estimated start date of December 15, 2024. The fellowship contract may be renewed for an equal or different period until the project ends, provided the eligibility requirements for its granting are met at the time of renewal.
Monthly maintenance allowance: The fellowship stipend is €1,259.64 (one thousand two hundred fifty-nine euros and sixty-four cents) per month, in accordance with the fellowship values listed in Annex I of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Research Fellowship Regulation.
Selection Methods:
The selection methods include the evaluation of the "scientific and curricular background," weighted at 60%, and the "professional selection interview," weighted at 40%.
The application of the selection methods will follow the phased approach outlined below.
The evaluation of the "scientific and curricular background" will focus on relevance, quality, timeliness, specific knowledge, and proven prior experience.
Candidates who score below 15.0 in the evaluation of the "scientific and curricular background" will be excluded from the competition.
For candidates scoring 15.0 or higher, the assessment process will include a "professional selection interview".
The Jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship if it considers that no candidate meets the required profile.
