Offer Description Title: RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (RF)
As per the terms laid down in Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação do LNEC (LNEC Regulation for Research Fellowships), approved by Law no. 40/2004, 18 August, we announce the launching of a call for awarding a research fellowship (RF) in the scope of the research program E2I SAFEPORT - Risk and Safety on Ports and Maritime Structures.
Financing source: LNEC own revenue
Duration: The Grant shall be awarded for a 1-year period.
Reserve list: A reserve list for selection shall be drawn up for a 6-month period as from the date of the final decision of this call.
Activity Regime: All the work shall be developed on an exclusive dedication regime, as per the provisions laid down in the Statute of the Research Fellow.
Work plan and objectives: The aim of the work is to carry out numerical and physical modelling studies to assess the agitation, stability, overtopping and pressures on maritime structures in port and coastal areas. The impact of climate change will also be assessed. The work plan includes:
Literature review
Application of numerical and physical models to assess agitation, stability, overtopping, flooding and pressures on maritime structures, including current, storm, or climate change scenarios.
Data analysis and processing based on new technologies for video and photo processing.
Producing articles, papers, reports, technical notes and other documents in collaboration with other members of the NPE.
Location: Workplace: LNEC – National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, I.P. The above activities shall be conducted at the Ports and Maritime Structures unit of the Hydraulics and Environment Department of LNEC.
Qualifications: Eligible candidates are graduates or MSc holders enrolled in postgraduate studies in one of the following areas: Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Geographical, Naval or Technological Physics Engineering, Marine Sciences, Marine Geology or related areas. Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken Portuguese and possess a good command of written and spoken English. Experience in physical modelling and Python language is preferentially required.
Monthly allowance: The Grant shall include a monthly allowance of €1,118.00 or €1,395.00 and a daily food allowance of €6.00, depending on the Grant fellow being Graduated or holder of an MSc.
Selection methods and criteria: The evaluation of the applications shall be based on the Applicant's Merits (MC), with criteria scored on a 0 to 20 scale:
Academic Background (PA) – 50%
Interview with the selection jury (ES) – 20%

Letter of motivation (maximum: one A4 page).
Degree certificate, with indication of the partial scores and final classification.
Document stating the score obtained in each curricular unit of the course the applicant is attending.
Official document of enrollment in the degree course.
Detailed Curriculum Vitae.
Other documents (optional), such as letters of reference and supporting documents of internships or complementary courses.
Deadline for applications: Between 02nd to 23rd December 2024.
Formalization of applications: The applications shall be formalized by electronic mail or delivered directly or by registered letter to LNEC.
Notification of results: The final score of each evaluation stage shall be advertised in a list sorted by the final score obtained.
