A call for applications is now open for the attribution of 01 research grant within the scope of the R&D project,IDfoods – Food System of The Future - Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Sistemas Agroalimentares Sustentáveis e Nutrição Saudável (com a ref. 182848 RCI), financed by Investment Contractual Regime – corporate R&DT – co-promotion), under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Food chemistry
Recipient category: The BIPD is intended for doctorates in the area of Chemistry or related areas who cumulatively meet the following requirements:
Holders of a PhD degree obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of the fellowship application;
Have carried out the research work that led to the attribution of a PhD degree in an entity other than the host unit Centre of Biological Engineering of University of Minho;
Do not exceed, with the conclusion of the contract in question, including possible renewals, a cumulative period of three years in this type of fellowship, consecutive or interpolated.
Candidates who do not cumulatively meet the requirements described will be excluded.
Mandatory requirements: PhD in scientific fields related to the biological properties of natural compounds, with a focus on cell culture maintenance techniques and microbial culture techniques;
Possible experience in colorimetric techniques of enzymatic modulation, formulation of natural-based laboratory prototypes, and evaluation of bioactive bioaccessibility in relevant models;
Knowledge and experience in analytical techniques specified in the work plan, such as extraction, characterization, purification, and identification of bioactives from natural sources.
Requirements during the contracting phase: Present proof of academic qualifications completed by the application deadline;
Preferred factors: Proficiency in English, entrepreneurial skills, and training in communication design.
Workplan and objectives to be achieved: In addition to strategies for sugar reduction and fat substitution, this project will select functional ingredients with recognized health claims for incorporation into food formulations. Evaluation of gastric and intestinal bioavailability of functional extracts.
Fellowship duration: The grant will take place for a period of 14 months, with a provisional starting date on January of 2025. The fellowship grant may eventually be renewed until the end of the project.
Amount of the research grant: The value stipend (Monthly Maintenance Allowance) is 1801€ per month.
Other benefits: Reimbursement of Voluntary Social Security and personal accident insurance.
Exclusivity regime: The grantee will perform the activities under exclusivity.
Selection panel: The selection panel shall consist of three effective members and two substitute members.
Criteria and procedures for applications assessment and selection: The applications assessment will focus on the candidate's Merit, following evaluation criteria, valued on a scale of 1 to 5.
Application deadline and submission: The call for applications is open for a minimum period of 10 working days after the notice publication on the European Scientific Mobility Portal Euraxess.
Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter with the following documents:
qualifications certificate or declaration of the applicant;
statement proving that meets the conditions for the grant typology;
other documents important to the evaluation process.

Fellowship contract: The fellowship will be attributed by signing a fellowship contract between the University of Minho and the fellow.
The activities under the fellowship contract can only begin after proper authorization by the contracting entity.
Term and cancellation of fellowship contracts: The fellowship ends with the completion of the work plan or with the expiration date for which it was granted or renewed.
The grantee is obliged to present a Final Report of the work carried out within 30 days after the end of the scholarship.
