Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-30) A Research Fellowship (BI) ( Reference REQUIMTE 2024-30 ) on the project PTDC/EAM-AMB/2023/2021, "SUSTECH4H2O – Clean Technologies for Pure Water: Eliminating Micropollutants from Drinking Water", supported by national funds by FCT / MCTES, is available at REQUIMTE.
Main research field: Chemistry
Admission requirements:
BSc degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Bioresources, or related scientific areas.
Frequency of the MSc in the same areas previously referred for the BSc degree or to be enrolled and/or attending a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in collaboration with an R&D unit.
Experience in sample preparation, chromatographic techniques, and environmental remediation processes.
In case the BSc degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of the Fellowship contract.
Working plan: Within the scope of the project "SUSTECH4H2O – Clean Technologies for Pure Water: Eliminating Micropollutants from Drinking Water", the research fellow will participate in Task 5 of the project, relating to the study of the effect of 3D electrochemical regeneration on the adsorption capacity of pharmaceutical compounds in polymeric ionic liquids (PILs). This study will include:
Carrying out tests in a three-dimensional electrochemical reactor using PILs as particulate electrode.
Adsorption tests and modeling.
The optimization of drug desorption conditions. Chromatographic techniques will preferably be used to determine the concentration of analytes in aqueous solutions.
Applicable Legislation: Law nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) amended and republished by Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, 28th August; FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt).
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, and the expected starting date is January 1st 2025.
Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €990,98 according to the stipend values established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria: The selection of the candidates will be based on the following criteria:
Detailed curriculum vitae (85%):
- Laboratory experience in the project's research area, namely in sample preparation, chromatographic techniques, and environmental remediation processes (60%);
- Scientific and technological production, including communications and articles (15%);
- Participation in research projects (10%);
- Interest and motivation in the research area.
In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 20%.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.
Jury composition:
Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
