Regional Finance Controller, Europe

The Regional Controller Europe plays a pivotal role as the leader of the Group's finance activities across Europe. The role will lead the successful execution of Finance objectives across multiple European locations and is accountable for the operational excellence of our global BPO service providers. Through optimizing resources, fostering financial accuracy and stability, and strategic alignment, the role enables reliable financial insights which facilitate effective business decision making.In addition, this role concurrently serves as the delegated Power of Attorney for our Portuguese entity.

Responsibilities Management of global relationship with outsource provider: You will lead the day-to-day relationship with the Group's global outsourced finance provider, including service management, service development, transformation management and performance and productivity management.
You will own the continuous improvement and transformation pipeline/road map with the outsource provider and oversee the implementation of agreed initiatives.
You will work in collaboration with (and support) the outsource provider in order to promote the successful execution of finance objectives and the delivery of the services within the agreed service level agreements.
You will manage the budget for service delivery from the outsource provider, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that costs are kept within budget.
Management of the regional financial control and banking activities: You will lead the day to day relationship with our external auditors for all European countries (excluding the UK) and work with our internal teams to ensure an effective and efficient audit process.
You will lead our local banking and treasury relationships in Portugal, Germany, The Netherlands and Finland; working closely with the Group Financial Controller where needed.
You will assist the Group Finance team and, from time to time, the wider Elementis teams with ad hoc projects.
Leadership of the regional financial control and plant control teams: You will lead a team of 6 direct reports, across 4 countries, working to engage and develop them whilst helping improve our finance process and controls and ensuring that all of our statutory compliance obligations within each territory are met.
You identify and develop talent, focusing on development, engagement, succession planning, knowledge transfer, and increasing organizational capacity and capability in Finance.
You foster an environment of inclusion, continuous learning, and collaboration through coaching, mentoring and problem resolution.
Decision making You will have the authority to make decisions related to the day-to-day finance operations of the European entities and decisions related to the day-to-day engagement with our outsource provider. Higher-level approvals would be required for decisions related to spend outside of agreed budgets, strategic shifts, or significant decisions that have substantial financial or long-term implications.
What will it take Building effective teams : Building, motivating and leading effective teams is critical to the successful operation of the European finance team. The role will be required to build strong relationships with our outsource provider, with the in-house direct reports and across the wider Elementis organisation.
Action orientated: Taking on new challenges with enthusiasm and dynamism is key to successfully advancing the finance transformation project with our outsource provider and in enhancing the ways of working of our in-house European finance team.
Communicates effectively: Effective communication with a range of internal and external stakeholders is essential. The role will require clear and effective communication with a range of nationalities and cultures.
Balancing stakeholders: Being able to balance and manage a wide range of stakeholders is critical to the smooth running of our finance operations. Stakeholders of the role include our outsource provider, the group finance team, internal and external auditors, and the wider Elementis organisation (e.g., procurement, legal etc).
Strategic mindset: Leading the transformation agenda with our outsource provider requires the ability to see ahead to future possibilities and then work with our partners and teams to translate them into breakthrough strategies.
Technical Knowledge and Skills Advanced understanding and knowledge of IFRS.
Intermediate understanding of transactional taxes (e.g., VAT).
Strong experience of leading a diverse team across multiple territories.
Advanced knowledge and experience of managing an off shore outsource provider.
Position Requirements Education: Chartered accountancy qualification (or equivalent).
Experience: 5 years + experience in a regional financial controller role leading a diverse team across multiple territories. Experience with IFRS accounting/reporting is essential. Experience of working with an offshore outsource provider is highly desirable. Knowledge of JD Edwards is desirable.
IT Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience of working with JD Edwards is desirable. Knowledge of data visualisation tools, such as Tableau or PowerBI is advantageous.
Language Skills: Verbal and written fluency in English is essential. Verbal and written fluency in Portuguese is desirable.
Working arrangements: Minimum 3 days a week in the office
Travelling required: Occasional travel to other Elementis sites and to the outsource provider's site as required.
