Purchasing Manager - SG Portugal & Portugal The Portugal Purchasing Manager (Country) & Saint-Gobain Portugal Purchasing Manager (entity) will be responsible for coordinating purchases in Portugal for the Group's Companies, collaborating closely with the central regional purchasing team in Spain.
The main objective of this role is to ensure the efficient and profitable procurement of goods and services to meet the company's needs. The Purchasing Manager will develop and implement procurement strategies, manage supplier relationships, and oversee all procurement activities to achieve optimal value and quality. He/she will be in charge of managing directly different strategic raw materials purchase (cement, gypsum, additives, etc.). He/She will be responsible for implementing and setting up the digital strategy of purchasing and securing the CO2 roadmap to achieve the sustainable goals of the Group. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills to ensure alignment with the Group's goals and objectives.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Execution
Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the Group's goals and objectives;
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure the best possible value, quality, and reliability;
Collaborate with other departments to understand their procurement needs and ensure timely and cost-effective supply of the necessary goods and services;
Align purchasing strategy with Group and Regional guidelines for the different categories (Energy, Raw Materials, Transport, General purchases…);
Secure internal control mechanisms as per internal reference framework;
Suppliers' risk management: monosourcing, source dependency, portfolio analysis;
Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms and conditions;
Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, and cost;
Conduct regular supplier assessments and audits to ensure compliance with the Group's standards and expectations.
Operational Management
Lead a team of 2 people hierarchically and a team of buyers functionally for non-regional activities to implement the category management strategy;
Oversee the activities of the purchasing department, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in the procurement process;
Implement and maintain procurement policies and procedures to streamline operations and ensure compliance with legal requirements and Group rules;
Manage and guide the purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Budget and Cost Control
Ownership of the purchasing budget. Develop and manage the procurement budget, ensuring alignment with overall financial objectives;
Identify cost reduction opportunities and implement strategies to achieve cost reduction goals without compromising quality;
Monitor and report on procurement performance metrics, providing regular updates to the CEO.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with the Spanish purchasing team to ensure a coordinated approach to procurement in line with the Group's strategy;
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including management, to provide updates on procurement activities and strategies;
Represent the purchasing department in meetings and cross-functional projects, contributing to the overall success of the Group's companies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred;
10+ years proven experience in a senior procurement or procurement role, ideally within an international context;
Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team;
Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Experience in procurement software and tools;
Fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish (French will be a plus);
Availability to travel as needed.
