DanSTAR is looking for a Fluids Engineer to join our Propulsion team! You'll be diving into fluid flow challenges, optimizing fuel delivery, and collaborating with a passionate team to push the limits of student rocketry.
What You'll Be Working On: As a Fluids Engineer, you'll be at the heart of our propulsion projects, making sure our fluid systems are top-notch. Here's what you'll be working on:
Fluid Flow Optimization : Analyze and optimize fuel flow and cooling systems to keep our propulsion systems running smoothly.
Design & Testing : Assist in the design, development, and testing of fluid components like our valves and injectors.
Troubleshooting : Collaborate with the team to identify and resolve any fluid dynamics issues during testing and development.
Simulations & Experiments : Conduct simulations and experiments to study fluid behavior under extreme conditions (think high pressure and low temperatures).
Integration : Work closely with mechanical and chemical engineers to ensure our fluid systems integrate seamlessly with the rest of the propulsion components.
Safety Compliance : Make sure all fluid system operations follow safety protocols and industry standards.
About DanSTAR: We are a student-run organization, based at DTUs (Technical University of Denmark) Skylab – consisting of students from across universities (ITU, DTU, KU, CBS). We are dedicated to teaching ourselves real-life rocket science – something you won't find anywhere else in Denmark! From financial bookkeeping to technical decisions, everything is handled by our members. We're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a student association, aiming to reach further and higher into the sky.
Our Mission: We're on a mission to build a small, scalable bi-liquid rocket (Fornax) capable of completing a full flight event, including recovery. This project is about building DanSTAR's infrastructure, knowledge, and skills for even larger future undertakings. Fornax is projected to launch during the summer of 2025 in Portugal in the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC).
What You Bring to the Table: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in engineering (preferably mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, or design & innovation or similar).
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and related principles.
Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and tools.
A keen interest in rocket science and a drive to learn and contribute.
DanSTAR is a student-run organisation, hence this is a volunteer position. We expect a time commitment of about 9 hrs/week – and sometimes more when testing gets intense. Willingness to put in the effort is key.
