The Port of Barcelona's Muelle Sur Container Terminal is 100% owned by APM Terminals and has an annual throughput capacity of 1,560,000 TEU. APM Terminals is committed to major investments in further upgrading terminal infrastructure and container handling equipment over the coming years to enable the terminal to handle the largest container ships in service.
APM Terminals Project Execution has, in agreement with APM Terminals Barcelona, recently commenced the ramp-up of the corresponding, multi-year project with the main focus on the civil & electrical engineering deliverables (quay wall, land side rail beam and furniture upgrades). The main challenge of this project resides in the need to undertake simultaneous operations, i.e. multi-shift, marine and land construction works in between and around 24/7 operational berths, within a very busy port area (incl. cruise terminals proximity).
The Project Manager is the central project role which ensures the overall delivery based on time, budget and scope specifications, and in accordance with the shareholder policies and guidelines. This role will require sound project judgement and strong leadership to establish priorities and maintain course, undertake pro-active and effective stakeholder management (internal and external), and ensure minimal and safe disruption to ongoing operations.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities: General Ensure the project ultimately delivers the business case benefits, in accordance with APM Terminals policies and guidelines.
Make certain that the project delivers on its primary objectives, i.e. project scope, schedule and budget.
Refine, develop and execute project strategies and plans, including implementation approach, contracting strategies, budgets and timelines.
Manage all internal and external stakeholders in and around the project.
Lead and direct an engaged project team.
Champion a positive safety culture, within the project team and with all vendors, in accordance with APM Terminals' HSSE vision and policies as captured on the safety standards.
Ensure the project team closely collaborates and aligns with the existing APM Terminals Barcelona organisation to deliver the project with minimal disruption to existing operations.
Implement the APMT Project Execution framework, including associated project management processes and tools, in full on the project.
Ensure that regular project status reviews are executed, together with designers, consultants, contractors and other relevant stakeholders.
Regularly issue written project status and performance reports to the project Steering Committee.
Drive and implement the APM Terminals culture, values and reputation while ensuring compliance with internal policies.
Ensure timely (sectional) Go-Live and ensure smooth integration of the finished project (sections) into the running organisation and business.
Interfaces Close collaboration with Senior Management Team of APM Terminals Barcelona.
Regular meetings and reporting into the Head of Portfolio and the Chair of Project's Steering Committee.
Regular meetings with project, terminal and Head Office management staff to ensure overall alignment, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Frequent interaction with other APM Terminals functions to ensure their support and collect, share and implement best practices.
Project related interaction with relevant local authorities and stakeholders.
Close engagement with APM Terminals PMO department to ensure APM Terminals Project Management standards are implemented and followed pro-actively on the project by all team members.
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS Qualifications Academic degree in an engineering or project management-based discipline (required).
Project management qualification/certification such as PMP, PMQ (preferred).
Experience Min. 15 years' experience in a delivery focused, project related environment (required).
Experience with managing complex infrastructure and/or equipment projects (around €100 mil.), preferably in the transport and logistics sector, with clear responsibility on achieving safety, time and budget targets (required).
Experience in international assignments at leadership level.
Experience in working in a matrix organisation (required).
Experience in simultaneous operations environments (preferred).
Contractor management experience (preferred).
