Wind, it means the world to us. What does it mean for you?Vestas Technology & OperationsResearch & Development (R&D) > Converter Design & IntegrationVestas R&D is where new product ideas or technologies are matured, developed, tested, and improved. To put it short, Vestas R&D is the cornerstone of Vestas. We are shaping the future of modern energy. The Converter & Electrical Module is part of Vestas R&D organization. The department is an essential contributor in making the current and future wind turbines more efficient and cost effective by developing the electrical power conversion components such as power stack (power electronics), transformer, and switchgear. This is done by being responsible for development and maintenance of the components according to the full value chain requirements. All Vestas products are based on internally developed converters since electrical power conversion is at the core of how a wind turbine performs, operates, and interacts with the electrical grid. The daily work will be within a broad network of stakeholders and together with the electrical, mechanical, and thermal specialists you will set the standard for tomorrow's design. You will be a part of the Converter Design & Integration team within the Converter & Electrical Module. The Converter Design and Integration team consists of highly skilled designers and specialists located in Aarhus Denmark, Porto Portugal, and Chennai India.ResponsibilitiesAs a Power Engineer in Converters, you will be a part of the Converter Design & Integration team and report to the Manager within Converter & Electrical Module.Your main responsibilities will be electro-mechanical design and analysis for key components of wind converters such as:Industrial Low Voltage distribution systemsBusbar sizing - design and simulationLoad flow and SC calculationPower Engineer - Converter SystemsYour daily tasks will include:Electro-mechanical and thermal design (analysis, calculation, and simulation) of main circuit & secondary automation of wind turbines converters.Ensure overall electrical design concepts together with relevant engineers and suppliersSystems Engineering process adherence through concept-requirements-design-verificationVerification through test and analysis and creating documentationEnsure that the design solutions meet the product requirements such as NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), durability, thermal, environmental, and performanceComponent & supplier selection - Ensure communication with suppliers and manufacturing, making sure to meet design targets and cost-down activitiesReliability analysis; Quality assurance; Field failure analysisQualificationsYour qualifications include:Bachelors or masters in electro-mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering if you have electrical design experience3 years of experience in Electro-mechanical designThe following qualifications could be advantageous:Knowledge of electrical design of protection systems including circuit breakers / fuses, MCB breakers, and contactorsKnowledge or experience with electrical network and modelling and simulation software, for example, ETAPKnowledge and experience with short circuit and arc flash calculations and testing according to NFPAEExperience with FEM simulation - mainly with focus on high current busbar loadingKnowledge of high-power design in the range of more than 0 to 0A for cables and busbarsPreferred knowledge and experience of copper and aluminum busbar designs - electrical, mechanical, and thermalKnowledge and understanding of IEC series, IEC -1 and understanding the practical use of IEC short-circuit calculations.Preferred knowledge within the use of IEC series on both supply systems, cables design, and personal protectionSpecific knowledge of the following will add value:Main circuit components: current interruption, relays, busbars, insulators, sensors.Earthing schemes; protection and selectivity; insulation coordination; fault handling.Design for harsh environments & International design standards.Calculation methods e.g. load flow and short circuit calculation; simulation tools; type testing.Busbar sizing (design copper or aluminum busbars, carrying high currents) including electrical and thermal design and simulationsDFMEA as a working method and know the importance for DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly)CompetenciesWe see the ideal candidate possessing the following personality and competencies:You are process-oriented and have a structured way to workYou naturally direct, guide, advise, and share knowledge with team and stakeholdersYou can easily connect with people and are able to build, develop, and maintain professional relationships at workYou possess English skills at a high level - orally and writtenYou believe in Vestas values of Simplicity, Passion, Collaboration, and AccountabilityExperienced in project execution in a matrix organization.Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.Experience working in international teams and with suppliersWhat we offerWe offer an exciting job with excellent opportunities for professional and personal development in an inspiring, creative, innovative, and international work environment in the renewable energy sector. We highly value initiative, responsibility, and the right balance between creativity and quality in all solutions.Additional informationWe look forward to receiving your application as soon as possible, as we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis. To apply for this opportunity please submit your resume in English.DEIB StatementAt Vestas, we recognize the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in driving innovation and success.
