Wind, it means the world to us. What does it mean for you?Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development (R&D) > Converter Design & IntegrationVestas R&D is where new product ideas or technologies are matured, developed, tested, and improved. To put it short, Vestas R&D is the cornerstone of Vestas. We are shaping the future of modern energy. The Converter & Electrical Module is part of Vestas R&D organization. The department is an essential contributor in making the current and future wind turbines more efficient and cost effective by developing the electrical power conversion components as power stack (power electronics), transformer and switchgear. This is done by being responsible for development and maintenance of the components according to the full value chain requirements. All Vestas products are based on internally developed converters since electrical power conversion is at the core of how a wind turbine performs, operates and interacts with the electrical grid. The daily work will be within a broad network of stakeholders and together with the electrical, mechanical and thermal specialists you will set the standard for tomorrows design. You will be a part of the Converter Design & Integration team within the Converter & Electrical Module. The Converter Design and Integration team consists of 15+ highly skilled designers and specialists located in Aarhus Denmark, Porto Portugal and Chennai India.ResponsibilitiesAs a Power Engineer in Converters, you will be a part of the Converter Design & Integration team and report to the Manager within Converter & Electrical Module.Your main responsibilities will be electro-mechanical design and analysis for key components of wind converters such as:Industrial Low Voltage distribution systemsBusbar sizing - design and simulationLoad flow and SC calculationYour daily tasks will include:Electro-mechanical and thermal design (analysis, calculation, and simulation) of main circuit & secondary automation of wind turbines converters. Ensure overall electrical design concepts together with relevant engineers and suppliers.Systems Engineering process adherence through concept-requirements-design-verification.Verification through test and analysis and creating documentation.Ensure that the design solutions meet the product requirements such as NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), durability, thermal, environmental and performance.Component & supplier selection - Ensure communication with suppliers and manufacturing, making sure to meet design targets and cost-down activities.Reliability analysis; Quality assurance; Field failure analysis.QualificationsBachelors or masters in electro-mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering if you have electrical design experience.+ 3 years of experience in Electro-mechanical design. The following qualifications could be an advantageous:Knowledge of electrical design of protection systems including circuit breakers/fuses, MCB breakers and contactors.Knowledge or experience with electrical network and modelling and simulation software, for example ETAP.Knowledge and experience with short circuit and arc flash calculations and testing according to NFPA70E.Experience with FEM simulation - mainly with focus on high current busbar loading.Knowledge of high-power design in the range of more than 1000 to 5000A for cables and busbars.Preferred knowledge and experience of copper and aluminum busbar designs - electrical, mechanic and thermal.Knowledge of IEC 61439 series, IEC 62477-1 and understanding the practical use of IEC60865 short-circuit calculations.Preferred knowledge within the use of IEC 60364 series on both supply systems, cables design and personal protection.Specific knowledge of the following will be an adds value:Main circuit components: current interruption, relays, busbars, insulators, sensors.Earthing schemes; protection and selectivity; insulation coordination; fault handling.Calculation methods e.g. load flow and short circuit calculation; simulation tools; type testing.Busbar sizing (design copper or aluminum busbars, carrying high currents) including electrical and thermal design and simulations.DFMEA as a working method and know the importance for DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly). We see the ideal candidate possessing the following personality and competencies:You are process oriented and have a structured way to work. You naturally direct, guide, advise and share knowledge with team and stakeholders. You can easily connect with people and able to build, develop and maintain professional relationships at work. You possess English skills at a high level - orally and written. You believe in Vestas values of Simplicity, Passion, Collaboration and Accountability.Experienced in project execution in a matrix organization.Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.Experience working in international teams and with suppliers. What we offerWe offer an exciting job with excellent opportunities for professional and personal development in an inspiring, creative, innovative and international work environment in the renewable energy sector.
