Offer Description The position is associated with the GalaxyFIT project funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). Its aim is to develop methods to constrain Galactic binary evolution models, Galactic geometry, and possibly gravitational-wave stochastic backgrounds, from realistic simulations of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) measurements.
Based on the global fit prototype that has already been developed in the lab, the research work will mainly focus on designing data analysis methods to optimally extract the astrophysical parameters in the presence of expected instrumental noises and artefacts. The candidate may also contribute to the development of the prototype pipelines for the LISA distributed data processing center (DDPC) and join associated international working groups. This project is conducted in collaboration with the ARTEMIS and LAGRANGE laboratories in Nice, France, and led by Nelson Christensen (ARTEMIS), Astrid Lamberts (ARTEMIS-LAGRANGE), and Quentin Baghi (APC). Funds are available for missions and conferences.
APC is a CNRS laboratory located in Paris responsible for the DDPC within the LISA ground segment, in close collaboration with international partners, as well as the French Space Agency (CNES). We are a young and dynamic group working closely together. The LISA project at APC is led by S. Babak and M. Le Jeune. Currently, our team consists of two postdocs and four Ph.D. students. You will also be a part of the Gravitation group, with permanent members including S. Babak, E. Chassande-Mottin, M. Barsuglia, E. Porter, E. Capocasa, Q. Baghi, and H. Halloin.
Proficiency in gravitational-wave data analysis is highly desirable, with good programming skills (Python, acceleration techniques, and collaborative development tools). Fluency in English is also a requirement. The position is open until 1st of December 2024.
Application Process Candidates are invited to apply directly on the CNRS job portal (https://emploi.cnrs.fr/) but also to send the following to Quentin Baghi:
