Presentation of URD ABI
URD ABI - AgroParisTech, located within the Pomacle-Bazancourt biorefinery, is a research and development unit dedicated to the valorization of agroresources and biorefinery byproducts. With expertise in white biotechnologies, green chemistry, and process engineering, the team works on multi-disciplinary research projects aiming at developing new industrial processes. These processes integrate the transformation of agricultural byproducts into high-value chemicals, including polymers and materials, fine chemicals, functional additives, and cosmetics.
Presentation of the CoBy project
The CoBy project aims to enhance the durability of metallic materials in corrosive environments by developing sustainable anti-corrosion coatings made from biomolecules extracted from local agro-industrial by-products. These coatings, designed to protect steel during atmospheric exposure and storage, offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional corrosion inhibitors, which often pose toxicity concerns and have high environmental impacts. The project focuses on understanding the corrosion inhibition mechanisms of these biomolecules, evaluating their efficiency through standard tests, and assessing their environmental and economic impacts. COBY integrates a circular economy approach, aligning with bioeconomy challenges by utilizing renewable resources and applying life cycle and techno-economic assessments.
Objective of the post-doctorate:
The project's main objective is to determine key parameters for the extraction and fractionation of biomolecules from agro-industrial by-products to create 100% vegetal carbon-based anticorrosion solutions. This involves a detailed investigation of molecule-substrate interactions in link with the team in charge of elucidation of corrosion inhibition mechanisms to identify and enhance promising fractions. The processes will be optimized for efficiency, sustainability, and scalability, ensuring they meet technical and environmental standards while providing an eco-friendly alternative to current industrial solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Developpe and conduct extraction and purification processes of corrosion inhibitors from selected plant waste residues
• Identify the molecules responsible for anticorrosion and understand their mechanism of action
• Optimize the extraction and purification parameters for the selective recovery of anticorrosion molecules
• Collaborate with other project partners to integrate extracted compounds into biopolymer matrices and validate their effectiveness in coating applications.
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in extraction and purification techniques for bioactive compounds from plant materials.
• Solid expertise in chemistry and analytical techniques for identifying anticorrosion molecules and understanding their mechanisms of action
• Knowledge of green chemistry principles, eco-extraction and sustainable processing methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills in English and the ability to contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
