Offer Description Working environment and context
The Laboratory of Digital Sciences of Nantes (LS2N, UMR CNRS 6004) works on digitization, data science, artificial intelligence, and robotics. The laboratory belongs to Nantes University, Centrale Nantes, IMT Atlantique, CNRS, and INRIA. It brings together nearly 500 researchers in 22 teams.
The ROMAS team (Robots and Machines for Manufacturing and Services) is an expert in manufacturing robotics and their digital twins. It is composed of 33 people, including 13 teacher-researchers and 12 PhD students. Stéphane Caro is the team leader.
The LS2N ROMAS team has just won the "AMATSUMARA" Robotics Transfer Challenge project, led by Mathieu Ritou, Professor at Nantes University, and with Andrea Cherubini, Professor at Centrale Nantes, as scientific leader. This is a major project, with a budget of almost €4M financed by France2030. Its aim is to robotize assembly operations of large-scale metal structures, using an innovative digital chain and managing the carbon footprint. The end-users are Naval Group and Groupe Briand. In addition, Proxinnov and Seraap will help as robot integrators.
At LS2N, a young and dynamic group of 8 engineers or post-docs will be working on this innovative collaborative project for 2 to 3 years.
Missions
The aim of this post-doctoral position is to develop innovative solutions in manufacturing robotics, from robot or machine design to testing and demonstration on industrial use-cases.
Main activities
The Amatsumara project is a major R&D project. It therefore requires a post-doctoral position to master and develop innovative manufacturing robotics solutions. Tasks include:
Robot or machine design: Contribution in the study of solutions and scenarios for picking up parts, and in the design of robots or machines enabling these assembly operations to be carried out, by integrating end-effectors on robots or Cartesian machines (3D CAD). Participation in the synchronization of the Digital Twin: between the CAD model and the real world, using vision-based tools integrated into this digital chain.
Responsible for the experimentation of the new robotic solutions. Organization of and participation in the experiments, both at the LS2N laboratory and at the project's industrial partners' facilities. Generation of manufacturing trajectories (CAM). Piloting robots or machines during trials.
Participate in deliverables writing.
