Offer Description Work Environment: ISEM, Montpellier & KEMRI Wellcome Trust, Kilifi, Kenya
Main Mission: Conduct experimental research, including semi-natural trials of several prototypes of an innovative and attractive toxic lure (ATREFEEL) to assess their effectiveness against disease-carrying mosquitoes and their impact on non-target species.
Activities:
Metabarcoding analysis: Identify the most effective plants for attracting mosquitoes using advanced metabarcoding techniques.
Prototype testing under semi-natural conditions: Test ATREFEEL prototypes against several species of target mosquitoes, and refine the prototypes according to the results obtained (attractiveness and efficacy).
Evaluate the impact of the prototypes on non-target species, in accordance with EFSA protocols.
Community involvement: Collaborate with the teams in charge of community acceptability in Occitanie and Kenya to assess the perception and acceptability of the devices.

Education Level: PhD or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications:
PhD in entomology, insect biology, chemical ecology, or related field.
Experience in molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, sequencing, possibly metabarcoding).
Skills in experimental design and in conducting experiments in laboratory and semi-natural conditions.
Skills in assessing the environmental impact of pesticides and/or entomopathogenic agents.
Experience in analyzing, presenting results, writing scientific publications, and managing research projects.
Knowledge of infectious disease vectors, vector control, and experience of working in East Africa would be an advantage.
Willingness to spend long stays in Kilifi, Kenya.
