Offer Description We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to a groundbreaking EIC Pathfinder Project (ASTOUND) exploring the ethical dimensions of an AI-based chatbot. This role will involve close collaboration with project partners to address the ethical implications of AI in conversational systems. Requirements Research Field: Ethics in social sciences
Education Level: PhD or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications Ethics-By-Design Expertise: Strong knowledge of Ethics-By-Design principles, with if possible experience implementing these in research projects.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for producing research reports, administrative documents, and progress updates in ethics-related project activities.
Leadership and Coordination: Proven ability to coordinate activities across various stakeholders, including members of the EAB, consortium, and portfolio.
Budget and Project Management: Competence in managing project budget and collaborating with researchers to achieve project milestones.
Specific Requirements Research and Analysis: Explore the value of moral awareness in both humans and AI-based conversational systems, investigating questions around the epistemic, ethical, and aesthetic significance of AI.
Ethical Framework Development: Identify ethical challenges and opportunities associated with AI-based chatbots, including biases and gender-related considerations. Propose a moral framework for AI safety and human oversight of such systems. Propose and implement solutions.
Engagement with Ethical Advisory Board (EAB): Work closely with EAB members to monitor and mitigate the ethical risks of the project. Follow the established ethical roadmap and comply with current EU AI regulations, applying an Ethics-By-Design approach alongside FAIR and ALTAI principles.
Outreach and Dissemination: Lead and participate in communication and dissemination activities with project consortium members and other related projects (Portfolio) to promote the ethical aspects and advances of the project.

Additional Information Foreseeable gross salary: 3012 euros/month before taxes

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM, Spain - Coordinator) Leads multimodal and natural language processing for conversational context in the chatbot.
IndeepAI (Spain), An AI-focused SME, responsible for developing the consciousness module architecture based on the Attention Schema Theory (AST) in collaboration with international researchers.
University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE, Germany) Specializes in creating validation tests to assess the consciousness of conversational agents using AST-based architecture.
Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) and Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) both in Paris, dedicated to the ethical implications of AI within the Project.
Travel and Flexibility: This position requires occasional travel to national and international events (e.g., conferences, consortium meetings, dissemination events).
