Role Summary: The Platform Product Owner for the Data Platform team will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing the data infrastructure and services to ensure that the platform is scalable, reliable, and meets the needs of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product management, data platforms, and technology leadership. They will work closely with engineering, data science, and business teams to deliver a world-class data platform that supports analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: Product Strategy & Vision
- Define and own the product vision and roadmap for the data platform, aligning with business objectives, stakeholder needs, and long-term company goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve the platform's capabilities, including data storage, processing, security, and governance.
- Understand industry trends in data platforms and bring in innovative approaches to keep the platform competitive and future-proof.
- Translate the product vision into detailed product requirements and backlog items.Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, analytics, data science, and business units to gather requirements and ensure alignment.
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders across the organization, ensuring their needs are reflected in the platform's features and updates.
- Manage expectations and provide clear communication on the platform's progress, upcoming features, and timelines.Backlog Management & Prioritization
- Own and manage the product backlog for the data platform, ensuring it reflects the platform's roadmap, business priorities, and technical constraints.
- Work closely with the data engineering team to prioritize user stories, features, and enhancements that deliver maximum value.
- Ensure that backlog items are clearly defined, well-scoped, and ready for development.
- Make trade-off decisions on scope, timeline, and resources to maintain focus on critical features and platform improvements.Delivery Oversight
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of platform features, improvements, and bug fixes.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and reviews to stay updated on development progress and remove any blockers.
- Validate the functionality of delivered features to ensure they meet the product requirements and business objectives.Data Governance & Compliance
- Define and implement data governance policies, ensuring that data is accurate, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with data security teams to ensure that the platform adheres to data privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Ensure that proper auditing, monitoring, and access controls are implemented across the platform.Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the platform, including data processing performance, uptime, and scalability.
- Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks in collaboration with the data engineering team.
- Conduct regular platform reviews and retrospectives, identifying areas for continuous improvement and optimization.User Experience & Support
- Ensure that the data platform delivers a positive user experience for internal teams such as analysts, engineers, and data scientists.
- Facilitate training and documentation to enable teams to use the platform efficiently and effectively.
- Collect feedback from users and address any issues or concerns related to the platform's usability and functionality.Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay abreast of new technologies, tools, and frameworks in the data engineering and data platform space.
- Drive innovation by identifying new opportunities for automation, AI/ML integration, and data-driven solutions that improve platform performance and user satisfaction.
- Regularly review and update the platform's architecture to keep pace with scaling business demands and technological advancements.Skills & Experience Required: 7-10 years of experience in product management, with a focus on data platforms, data engineering, or related technology domains.Strong technical understanding of data platforms, databases, ETL/ELT processes, cloud computing (AWS, GCP, Azure), and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).Proven ability to define product vision, develop product roadmaps, and drive the execution of platform initiatives.Experience in agile methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and cross-functional team collaboration.Demonstrated ability to balance technical complexity with business priorities and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.Familiarity with data governance frameworks and ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).This role emphasizes the ability to manage a technical product while balancing strategic vision, stakeholder needs, and engineering execution. The candidate should be an experienced product owner with a strong technical acumen in data platforms.
