PhD Scientific Researcher Recruitment (Initial Stage Researcher)
FCiências.ID - Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências announces the opening of an international call for the recruitment of a Scientific Researcher with a PhD degree, in the category of Initial Stage Researcher, within the project SUBMERSE: SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration (Ref.HORIZON-INFRA-2022-TECH-01-101095055), financed by the European Union´s Horizon Europe research & innovation programme.
I. Admission Requirements Applicants may submit applications if they hold a doctoral degree in Geophysics, Marine Sciences or similar areas, and have expertise in Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) of cetaceans, complying with the following requirements:
The PhD must have been granted more than 3 years ago;
Demonstrated scientific and/or professional experience in analysis of PAM data recorded by OBS and/or hydrophones;
Experience in detection, classification and characterization of low frequency vocalizations of cetaceans;
Experience in the localization of sound sources in the ocean and determination of its intensity;
Knowledge in programming languages like Python, Matlab, Fortran or C;
Experience in statistical analysis using R or Python;
R&D activity in PAM;
Experience in participation in national and/or international scientific projects;
Scientific experience demonstrated by publications as 1st author in international scientific journals;
Relevant scientific and/or professional training in PAM;
Demonstrated experience in outreach activities in the scientific area;
Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
III. Work Plan The researcher will contribute to the SUBMERSE WP3 and assist the PI in coordination, with tasks including:
Technical preparation of data recorded by fibre cable sensors.
Development of products related to detection and characterization of cetacean vocalizations.
Development of oceanographic products for dedicated websites.
Coordination of public availability of geophysical and oceanographic products.
VI. Place of Work Work will be developed at the Research Center IDL – Institute Dom Luiz, in Campo Grande, Lisboa, Portugal.
VIII. Monthly Allowance The gross monthly salary corresponds to 2.294,95 Euros, with additional holiday and Christmas allowances.
