COFAC, Cooperativa de Animação e Formação Cultural crl, announces a call for applications for a PhD Research Scholarship in the scope of the project "Curiositas: Peeping Before Virtual Reality. A Media Archaeology of Immersion Through VR and the Iberian Cosmoramas (PTDC/COM-OUT/4851/2021)", supported through national funds in the budget of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) - and developed in the research unit CICANT - Research Center for Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies.
1 - Applicable legislation: Legal Regime of the Research Grant Holder Statute (Law no. 40/2004, of August 18, republished in annex to Decree-Law no. 202/2012, of August 27, and amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28, which proceeds with the fourth amendment to the Research Grant Holder Statute); and Regulation no. 950/2019, of December 16, which approves the FCT Research Grant Regulations - 2019.
2 - Scientific Area: Sciences of Communication
4 - Duration of the Scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 36 months, without the possibility of renewal.
5 - Amount of the grant and method of payment: The amount of the grant is 1104,64€, in accordance with the table of values for grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country. The payment of voluntary social insurance is also foreseen.
6 - Host institution: CICANT - The Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies.
7 - Supervision and activities to be developed: The guidance will be provided by the Principal Investigator and the fellow will collaborate in research activities such as: historical press and image surveys in archives, database filling and cataloguing, press analysis, curation of research data in a Virtual Reality platform and dissemination events (conferences, workshops, open courses and scientific contents for storytelling and curation of exhibitions).
8 - Admission requirements: Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions set out in Articles 6 and 9 of the FCT I.P. Research Grant Regulations (2019). All individuals enrolled in a PhD program in Arts, Media Arts or Sciences of Communication are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Specific requirements are:
Archive research experience;
Database editing experience;
Research interests in Media Archaeology and in Portuguese historical visual media;
Experience in digital or artistic curating;
Proficiency, both orally and in writing, in Portuguese and in English or French.
9 - Application deadline and form of presentation of applications: The competition is open from January 3 to February 7, 2022. Applications must be submitted by email to the address ******, with the reference "PTDC/COM-OUT/4851/2021" in the subject and by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents:
Documents proving that the candidate meets the required conditions for the type of scholarship to which he/she is applying for, namely qualification certificates with final average; proof of enrolment in PhD program. In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to ensure the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants holding foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale.
10 - Selection: The selection will be based on curricular evaluation (10 points) and interview (10 points), with a final value of 20 points. Interviews will be held for candidates whose curricular assessment is equal to or higher than 8.25 points. If the selected candidate drops out and there is another candidate on the final list with a score equal to or higher than 16.5, the jury will proceed to select that candidate.

13 - Form of publication/notification of results: candidates will be notified of the results of the competition via email and the ordered list of candidates will be posted on the CICANT website.
