Offer Description The ABC CoLAB (Algarve Biomedical Center Collaborative Laboratory - Integrated Solutions for Aging and Rejuvenation) is an innovative triple-helix model in health focused on longevity and active aging, aimed at transferring knowledge and technology to society and target markets.
This call is for hiring one (1) PhD Researcher (M/F) in Biomedicine (neuroscience or related areas), for candidates of any nationality, under operation ALGARVE-FSE+-01177600 related to the application submitted to Notice ALGARVE-2024-8, funded by the Algarve 2030 Regional Program and co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

Mission: Under the coordination of the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the researcher will participate in experimental procedures, research tasks, and activities associated with the development of ongoing projects, products, and/or services.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Actively participate in ABC CoLAB's scientific and research policy;
Support research and innovation agenda activities of ABC CoLAB;
Perform experimental procedures and laboratory techniques, mainly in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and histology;
Participate in the collection and processing of biological samples;
Participate in data collection, recording, and analysis;
Conduct bibliographic research;
Prepare scientific articles;
Draft applications for national and international funding;
Draft reports on projects and activities involved in;
Support the execution of technical procedures for the operationalization of products and services;
Participate in ABC CoLAB's knowledge dissemination, communication, and transfer activities.
REQUIRED PROFILE:
PhD degree (MANDATORY) in Biomedical Sciences or related areas;
International experience, preferentially as postdoctoral researcher;
At least 5 years of postdoctoral work experience;
Experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Histology, and Cellular Biology techniques;
Experience working with Mus musculus ;
Experience in writing funded projects;
Preferential professional experience in academia in the field relevant to the open position.
Other Requirements:
Relevant scientific production through publications in reference journals, conference presentations, or participation in projects, or continuous training in areas relevant to the activities to be developed;
Fluency in both Portuguese and English, spoken and written.

WORKPLACE
Activities will be carried out at ABC CoLAB (or its associates) facilities in Faro or Loulé, and at other locations as needed to fulfill the tasks.

Gross monthly salary may vary between levels 33 (€2,294.95) and 45 (€2,949.11) of the Single Remuneration Table depending on available funding and/or proven academic qualifications and professional experience.

2nd Alternate Member: Joana Apolónio, Member of the Board – ABC CoLAB;
SELECTION METHODS AND CRITERIA
Eligible applications will be scored from zero (minimum score) to twenty (maximum score). In case of a tie or if considered necessary, an interview will be conducted with the top 2 candidates.
Admission: All candidates who meet the defined requirements will be admitted.
Evaluation Method:
Final classification will be the weighted average of the curricular assessment (50%) and the interview (50%).
Selection of the candidates with the highest final score.
Curricular Assessment (CA)
The CA will be quantitatively expressed from 0 to 20 points, calculated from the following objective criteria: CA = 0.30 × A + 0.40 × B + 0.30 × C where: A - Evaluates the academic merit based on professional qualifications (0-20 points); B - Evaluates previous experience relevant to the position; C - Evaluates the quality of the research and career plan.
Interview (I)
If necessary or in the case of a tie, the interview will be conducted with the top 2 candidates, either in person or by videoconference.
The interview score will be based on the following criteria:
a) Scientific Expertise
b) Technical Skills
c) Problem-Solving and Innovation
d) Team Collaboration and Communication
e) Grant Writing and Funding Experience
f) Leadership and Independence
These criteria will be scored from zero to twenty, and the total interview score will be the sum of the criteria divided by six (0-20 points).
Final Classification (FC)
The final classification of each candidate will be decided by a simple majority of the selection panel. Candidates will be ranked according to their FC. In case of a tie, the President of the panel will decide.
If an interview is required, the final classification (FC) of each candidate will be obtained through the weighted average of the Curricular Assessment (CA) (50%) and the Interview (I) (50%). After applying each selection criterion, each jury member will rank the candidates according to the final classification. The candidate who receives the majority of votes will be selected. In case of a tie, the decision will be made by the President of the panel.
The selection panel will hold the necessary meetings to reach a final decision, documenting the procedures used as well as all elements deemed relevant to the final decision.
If no candidates of merit are found, or if funding conditions change significantly after the publication of this notice, the selection reserves the right to close the competition without recruitment. If the selected candidate declines the position, the panel reserves the right to offer the position to the next candidate in the ranking.
COMMUNICATION OF RESULTS
The evaluation results will be published at https://abcri.pt/abc-colab/ and sent to the candidates' email addresses within 90 working days after the application deadline. Candidates have 10 working days after the results are released to respond during the pre-decision hearing process. The final decision will be made within 60 working days after the pre-decision hearing.
If all candidates are selected for the position, the process will conclude with a final decision.
OTHER INFORMATION
Candidates with foreign academic degrees must provide proof of degree recognition as per Decree-Law no. 66/2018. Any candidate without such recognition will not be admitted to the competition.
