Medical Translator (English & Portuguese)

Job Overview
We are looking for an individual freelance English into Portuguese Translator with experience in medical translations and, ideally, a medical background. If you'd like to help us translate our medical database and other products, we'd love to hear from you. You will be working as an external Supplier (freelancer), cooperating closely with our inhouse Translations team, together with another Portuguese Translator.

Experience

Medical background (a medical student, a graduate, or a physician) or at least 5 years of proven experience in medical translation.

Knowledge / Skills

Native fluency in European Portuguese and working proficiency in English.
Excellent writing skills.
Ability to describe complex topics with simplicity and clarity.
Ability to deliver on a tight schedule.
Ability to work independently.
Availability to work 40 hours per month.

Nice to have

Degree in Medicine or Translation.
Experience in translating User Interface will be considered an important asset.
Familiarity with and an understanding of the Plain Language concept will be a plus.
Experience with CAT tools and translation QA tools will be a plus.

Taking care of the translation quality

Translations are crucial for our products to work properly. Users rely on these translations when they describe symptoms and when they make healthcare decisions. Right now, we support 20+ languages, and we're still adding new ones.

Working with a medical database

You will translate and localize our medical content, i.e., symptoms, conditions, risk factors, diagnostic questions, and more. You will also be responsible for translating apps and product descriptions.

Translating medical content

You will use your in-depth medical knowledge to translate medical terminology and your language skills to write content that people understand. You will make sure that your translations are accurate and clear for both physicians and ordinary people. Finally, you will identify and address lingual issues.
